Farris, Thanks for being here on your day off! I’m pondering how I might use that . I think your observation that it would be superb with a smaller mic with separate transmitter is right on!

Hahaha. You’re very welcome! And yes, perhaps that’s something they’ll develop! Cheers!

Great review! I agree it’s a big miss by shure not having that 3.5mm input. It would be interesting to see a future comparison between other consumer wireless lav systems.

Hey thanks! I have personally tried many of them out there - except for the Hollyland one. I just don’t have them here with me currently. I do have the Comica system here, and I think it sounds bad. It’s in a much lower league, in my opinion. But you’re right. I’ll try to get a hold of some other systems for a comparison video! Cheers!

Removable batteries would extend their usable life.

Agreed. But these devices these days are pretty solid. I’ve not had any built-in batteries die on me in years. You still have a good point though.

Can I use this mic with or without the receiver to do an actual tiktok Live? I'm confused when you use the word livestream. I do a lot of TikTok lives. I'm'm looking for a microphone that makes my audio during the TikTok Live sound better in real time. Is this the product for that?

Hi there. Great question. With the receiver, yes you can do anything. Without the receiver you would not be able to broadcast live on TikTok. And yes it would make your videos sound better than just the phone. In my opinion of course. Hope this helps!

Compare it to the DJI mic 2. At 630 dollars Canadian with no 32 bit float or internal recording. It's over priced

That was my first impression, but then I heard the quality and the distance. The DJI one is pretty good, but the mic sounds bad. BUT, you can use an external mic with it, and that is excellent, but that also requires you to buy or already own a good external. But you’re right about it not having internal recording (which I mentioned) or 32 bit. This is a specific set for specific people. If it’s not what you want, I agree. Move on to one that does what you want. I hear great things about Hollyland.

Sorry, that mic is just insanely big for a lav - pass (unless I can use a Sanken or Countryman, etc.).

Yeah. I agree. But imagine that Shure MoveMic is the transmitter and you could plug in a Sanken or a Countryman? That’s where it would be exciting for small Indy productions.

I guess a good comparison would be with the picomic series, even though picomic can now accept an external mic. Btw, the Hollyland lark M2, the small, round one with a symbol that looks like a sci-fi series from the sixties doesn’t take lavs (as far as I know). Do you have an opinion on the picomics?

Hey there. I have never tried the picomics. So sorry about that. And you’re absolutely right about the Hollyland Lark M2. Did I say M2? I meant Hollyland Lark Max.

Agreed on the ability to plug in a lav. I've been doing lighting on an indie feature film for the past 2 months and the entire film is being done with lav mics because of the wide lenses being used, and only Master shots for the "artsy" component of the film. QUALITY LAVS that don't make scratchy noises from clothes rubbing on the lav wires or mics would be nice. We've been trying the "standard" tricks for those issues. Hiding the lavs has been tricky while also getting clean audio. Sometimes the reception was also an issue, so these Shures would be fantastic.....if one could plug in a lav. However, these still would have done well in a number of situations, such as when attaching a lav mic and transmitter to an object to hide the mic, instead of the character being mic'd. This includes beer can mics, popcorn bowl mics, lamp mics, and other such creative hiding places. Each time, hiding the transmitter was the hard part. With these Shure tiny transmitters, it would have been a lot easier. A LOT of indie filmmakers are looking for that "perfect enough" lav mic system. This is why there have been, and continue to be, so many offerings in the market by so many companies to attempt to meet this need. However, it is really nice to see one of the Big Boys step in and say "We know a thing or two about mics..." As wonderful as this kit is, a pluggable lav would be so nice. I understand how much real estate that will add to the transmitter, but it will still be smaller than most of what is out there. And then there is the sound..... Is the mic on the transmitter an omni or dynamic mic? We've been using dynamic lavs and they've been a saver particularly when shooting in places where we cannot control the surrounding noise.

Hey man! It’s an omni mic. And I totally agree with everything you’ve said here! Thanks for the awesome comment as usual!

great video! how these compare for example with the Lark M2?
@TheRecordist

Thanks! The Lark M2 is a nice system. The Shure might sound better out of the box, but you can’t plug and external mic in the transmitter. Whereas you CAN do that with the M2.

It's actually annoying how good that mic sounds. (Almost as annoying as being tied to using hardware with a particular bit of software. Who does Shure think they are (turning into) - Apple?!)
