Bandrew, I bought the Q2U because of the review you did a while back. I really like it a lot. I have it set up in USB configuration until I can get either a mixer or an audio interface. But what a great microphone. I have used it in a video conference for a job interview with a staffing agency and they said that I sounded like I was on a podcast.

Usually, people don't give any second thought to their audio on conference calls. Most of them use the built in macbook microphone which, at least in my experience, picks up A TON of background noise to the point when if the room is too loud, I have a hard time understanding that person. I got the Q2U too now. It's great so far.

I would have thought the SM58 to be much more sibilant since its Frequency response is boosted in the higher range. The Q2U according to the specs is totally flat. This puzzles me. Are you saying Samson measured it wrong?
@yvanaluz9994
@yvanaluz9994 Жыл бұрын
That's still a question that should be explored, I haven't seen independent measurements of the q2u aside from the 'official' one coming from samson's documentation, if those measurements are anything to go by, wouldn't that make the q2u the ideal mic as it's totally flat and 'truer' to life? As I understand, mics that have a flat fr are supposedly optimal for eq, so the q2u could easily be pre eq'd to sound like other even more expensive mics, Julian Krauss has some videos about it and his findings are impressive as he's been able to make a cheap 20 usd behringer mic sound practically identical to a more expensive sure sm7b. As for podcastage's assement, he can only give you a subjective input as he doesn't have proper microphone measurement equipment afaik so there is a chance that he might be wrong.

@@yvanaluz9994 I have the Samson Q2U and I love it for singing. I use some SHure SMb7 windfoam on it and the original windfoam underneath 🙂 I don't have problems with sibbilance or plosives that I know of. TO my ear it sounds much like my Aston SPirit. Can't really hear the difference.

Hello. May I ask if the Q2u needs to boost the signal using Cloudlifter CL-1 like it needs Rode Procaster or will I be fine without using the Cloudlifter? I´m thinking if it is worth to pay 250+$ for the Procaster and Cloudlifter or not. For me - I dont think it is wort to spend this extra money since I´m pretty small streamer but some opinions would be fine. Thanks a lot for your content!

No you dont need it at all. Before you invest in anything do the simple thing, get Q2U and see how you like it with USB. Then Get 10$ XLR to 3.5 cable and see how your sound card does, if you have a PC with medium to high motherboard it should have great sound card, mine can record microphone input 24bit96000Hz. And if after all of it you wont like the sound you can either buy Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD 24 Bit/192 kHz USB Audio Interface OR I would recommend to buy modern Creative Sound card, it has insane quality, 24bit/96Kh recording and it has unmatched sound too, so youll gain twice, youll get great sound recording and great gaming/music audio.

WTF? The Q2u sounds much better to me. Much more balanced and natural frequency response. The SM58 seems to have a lot of 'useless crap' and 'tin' in voice signal, but maybe it's due to other factors. Either way, in this test, the Q2u sounds much more pleasing to me. I'm nearly shocked. The Q2u has nearly HALF the price AND works standalone without interface AND sounds better to my ears. WOW. This is what happens when you combine german engineering (top notch) with chinese manufacturing costs (superlow) :)
