@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
@@ON1C with the way I have mine setup, there's still a little bit of keyboard/mouse noise when I talk. I also don't have a super noisy mechanical keyboard which has some factor in it. I think it's just something that's hard to get rid of 100% but you can minimize it with the noise gate.

Hey, I have the same setup but for some reason when I select dynamic in the mic setup option it doesn’t pick up my voice. But when I set it to condenser it does pick up my voice. (I do have a cloud lifter plugged in tho so I’m not sure if that makes a difference)
@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
Hey! I think if you're running a cloud lifter, you'll want to run it on the condenser setting. Should be good running it that way!
@chowacow2 жыл бұрын
While the sm7b is a dynamic mic, cloudlifter requires phantom power ergo why you have no audio in dynamic but do in condenser, it provides the +48v phantom power
@angrytomasz3 жыл бұрын
Just because Citgo XLR has enough game to drive the Shure sm7b doesn't mean that you shouldn't use a cloudlifter. You can avoid a ton of preamp noise by using a cloudlifter and then setting your actual gain on the go XLR to about 30 db.
@philthyphil10172 жыл бұрын
Agreed...I switched from a scarlett solo and cloudlifter to goxlr. however I want to buy the cl again. I feel the mic just sounds better with it. Even for the noise reduction alone it's worth it, but beyond that I've heard samples with and without and the ones with cl sound fuller. It may depend on the voice driving the microphone--- I feel that I love the fact I can live monitor the eq with go goxlr and i also like how you can gain stage digitally instead of with an analog knob like on the scarlett. It feels more presice.. same with the live EQ. no more messing with plugins in obs then going back and listening. I do miss the fullness the cl provides tho and feel the CL and goxlr is the ultimate combo for sm7b Edit: to add to this, with any "budget" interface its recomended to use a CL. While most may not consider the goxlr as budget interface @ 500.00 ish dollars and with the midas amp, it is, with the mini version coming in at 220.00 which houses the same exact pre amp minus extra voice effect features and a couple eq bands. Interfaces can easily cost 4 to 5 times that for something that pairs well with the sm7b. I'm not knocking the goxlr in the slightest. I use one. But I can feel I'm pushing it pretty hard with the noise rising as I push 60 dB on an interface that maxes out at 72. It is known that the sm7b only needs 56 dB of gain to work well however shure themselves recommend an interface that pushes atleast 60 along side a cloudlifter. I feel the reason they say this is because they know alot of budget interfaces max out around 60db and they don't want to be responsible for unhappy consumers buying these budget interfaces and not getting the desired sound because the amp they house is all but maxed out or worse case actually at 100% gain. With the mic gaining mainstream popularity alot of ppl new to the xlr world, I feel like they figure the average person is going to say "well it says it needs 56db and interface X pushes 60db, why spend the money on interface Y, the mic was 400$. I feel like this is why they suggest the cloudlifter. Any budget amp pushing max or close to isn't going to sound as good. I don't like calling the goxlr a budget interface persay, because I think for some people it's more than enough with this mic. In my use case and scenario with my voice I want the CL because I know from experience it helps the mic sound better, with my voice. Anyway sorry for the rant if anyone even reads it. Ive been doing alot of research on this mic as it's one of my biggest investments. I still have so much to learn... not even going to pretend I'm anywhere near as knowledgeable as alot of these guys in the sound industry.

I've been struggling to get a good tone out of this microphone but everyone else just sounds so good. I know everyone's settings aren't just universally good but I'm going to give yours a shot. How close are you to the microphone and what direction are you speaking into it?
@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
I felt the same way with my last setup. I originally used the SM7B with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and a DBX286s. Couldn't seem to get the sound I was looking for, so I swapped out both for the GoXLR and it does the job. I keep my mic pretty close, 3-5 inches away, and it's tilted about 45 degrees towards me. Hope this helps!

hey! i just got both the sm7b and the goxlr! but i cant hear my voice when i try any of the settings, it's really faint almost none existent. do you have any advice?

It sounds like either your gain is set too low or your headset playback volume in the GoXLR app might be too low. Try going to the "Mixer" tab in the app and scroll all the way to the right and turn up the Headphones volume level. Hopefully this helps!

Great video. Quick question tho.... How is the SM7B alone with no GoXLR? Looking into purchasing one soon.
@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s going to be way quieter since you won’t have that extra +60dB of gain from the GoXLR. If you recorded a voiceover and played it back, the volume of it would be very low, similar to how it sounds at 0:55. You could definitely go a cheaper route with a different audio interface, you’ll just want to make sure it has enough gain to support the mic or you may need a cloudlifter for the extra boost.
@RetroQuin2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeFPS1 gotcha. Thanks. I'll be getting this mic soon and I wanted to get the Go XLR a little later. Not trying to drop a lot of cash at once like that lol
@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
@Retro Quin No prob! I did the exact same thing 😂
@philthyphil10172 жыл бұрын
@@RetroQuin the mic won't work by itself as it's XLR and unlike a USB mic there is no analog to digital converter on board the sm7b. That said you need an interface with a minimum of 60db to get signal from the mic. The goxlr pushes 72 so there is enough headroom without crazy noise from having the gain cranked. Something like the focusrite scarlett will work as well however there will be alot if noise because you have to max out the gain. In this situation it would be ideal to get a cloudlifter. Personally I started with the focusrite scarlett solo and cloudlifter with the sm7b. Then I realized the goxlr mini can handle it on its own and is a bit less cost so I returned the scarlett/CL and had the goxlr overnighted via Amazon prime. 220ish dollars vs. Around 270-300 for the scarlett CL combo. Keep in mind with that setup you also need another short xlr cable which is why I said 270-300ish depending on variables. I'm happy with the goxlr but I've heard what it's capable of with a cloudlifter so I'm going to be buying the CL again this Fri. Both the mini and full size goxlr have good midas amp @ 72db max however with the cloudlifter the sm7b is almost always going to sound more full unless you're spending alot of coin on an interface. And by alot I don't mean between 200-500$. Keep in mind I'm a bit of an audiophile and can hear subtle changes.

@MikeFPS12 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't know for sure on that 1st question since I'm not much of a musician, but it's great for recording/streaming overall. Very intuitive, much more so than what I was using before, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and DBX 286s. I feel like the sound is a lot better as well.

@@MikeFPS1 thanks Mike. I just find the ATEM mini too difficult to use. And there is a lag that you have to go into the software to compensate for. Its really not intuitive. I'm a musician and wish I was more of a gearhead too
