So when he says "I never sleep, it's the cousin of death" I'm trying to figure out what he means, what comes to mind if Hypnos and Thanatos, gods of sleep and death, but they are brothers, and it's the same for their roman equivalents. Does anyone know if there was anything specific he was referencing? Or perhaps he was just speaking about sleep and death having similarities? But he does follow it with "I mean it literally is" leading me to believe he is talking about actual mythical familial relationships.

Dan is referencing the phrase “I never sleep, cuz sleep is the cousin of death,” most popularly attributed to Nas in his song N.Y. State of Mind (go listen to that now). The second line, “I mean it literally is, because I wouldn’t have breath” references the fact that sharks have to keep moving at all times in order to be able to breathe.
