This interview is so timely and fortunate in hindsight, not only did Samdish manage to interview this man one last time, but it also managed to be such an amazing reflection of Shyam's sprawling career and artistry. Not only that, the fact that this interview was almost accidental, and on the verge of not happening makes it all the more special. RIP Mr Benegal, you'll forever be one of the greatest to ever do it

Samdhish...You may not realise this. You have got someone like Shyam Benegal speaking from his decades of experience - a video worth watching even after many more decades. Even though Mr Benegal may not remember the names, his clarity of thought and putting forward his views are priceless. This is just incredible piece of interview. How time flies by..we have grown up on his films since the 70s.. saw him having those dark beard and then gradually greying and lo he is in this 90s.And what articulation and memory at this age. Great work by Samdish to converse the right way to a person of this age and stature. You mentioned Govind Nihlani.. please please bring us an interview with him. These two were the Pioneers and identified with meaningful cinema.

This is how an interview should take place of a genius, of a wise old man. I started watching this interaction at around 1200 in the night and just couldn’t leave it in between. Mr Shyam Benegal was and is one of my favourite film maker and I have seen most of his films since I was in my 20s. Watching this interview made me understand why did I like his cinema all these years and what stuff these great men are made of.. And what a way to conclude the talk by this 90 years old genius by saying “ More one lives, less he knows”… Such a pleasure to watch this, some really intellectually stimulating stuff after long 😊

Hahaha fun wathcing the film student inside Samdish go through such a range of feelings when a legend like Benegal says he does not care about his legacy.This interview is a great thing to watch in your 30s for me I think. Kind of crazy that many who consider him an inspiration have already retired, and he is still so relatable. I laughed a lot, and it was also amazing how someone could honestly speak about both Nehru and his daughter, during the emergency and after too, and how he could casually call Gandhi artless but shrewd. Once again thanks a lot Samdish and team. Also for teaching sir how to consume content on youtube.

Such a wonderful interview. I kept watching with a smile on my face. I have been to the photo studio in Lal Bazar and it used to be the only studio close to our house which did a wonderful job. Coming to films, I wish we had more filmmakers like him now and actors like Naseeruddeen Shah, Om Puri and Shabana Azmi. I try my best to introduce the younger generation to this era of films 😊. This is what Indian cinema is and not the present day Bollywood with mediocre actors and directors. Only few can boast of carrying the legacy of Indian cinema.

My maternal grandfather also walked from Burma to Calcutta when the Japanese attacked Burma in 1942. By nani and the kids left Rangoon on the last ship that left for Calcutta.
