This is because the cosmic gigalith scales with summon attack rather than it’s own magic attack when killed by a summon, which resulted in very low damage

My first playthrough was on Hard and blind (without any non-asterisk challenges/cheats) and it was insane, yet I reached half health on my first attempt! Persistence and adaptability are key.

@@Aranmath I would advise trying to get the Pixel summons, specifically the Grey, Dead and Green ones. They are very cheap, only in the single digits of SP if memory serves and inflict some of the most useful statuses in the game for capturing. Specifically Weaken, Bad Luck and Tired respectively.

I was actually playing through EBF5 when this came out and I wanted to wait until I beat it to watch this video. I really liked the summon mechanic although I didn't use it too much due to not really knowing much about it. It's nice to see the true potential of summons in this video. A few things I would add if others would want to do this challenge. If you can, try going for the Grey Pixel, Dead Pixel and Green Pixel. They inflict a stack of Weaken, Bad Luck and Tired respectively. Those 3 statuses are some of the best statuses to inflict on enemies you want to capture as Weaken and Tired both add 2 additional stat debuffs, and Bad luck makes it easier to inflict those statuses. On top of that, those 3 enemies have a very low SP cost, making them easy to add to a strategy assuming you can survive long enough. If you can manage to beat it, GLOB is also pretty good for inflicting statuses, inflicting no less than 6 different ones, including Tired Weaken and Curse, the three that decrease stats passively. Either way, great video. Maybe there will be another video on the optional bosses, though I don’t expect it any time soon… Also glad you’re doing well now.

Tired and Curse is the game. Weaken isn't good for capturing because offensive buffs/debuffs don't affect it. And as precision is considered offensive, it also has no effect, so Tired and Curse increase the capture chance by the same amount (because evade is worth the double of defense).

I amended this in another comment but not here so I’ll do it now. While I stand by Green and Dead Pixel being good, as well as GLOB if you can gain access to it, Grey Pixel isn’t as good. At the time, I had forgotten that Attack debuffs don’t really matter in terms of capturing. Since I’m here, I’ll also mention that Putrid worm is really good as well as NoLegs doll. (Also, if you play this challenge on a non 1 player mode file, you can get Putrid Worm before Dirt Boulder by having the game on Epic Difficulty as that starts the battle with the worm having poison status, and it has the ability to inflict virus which stacks to be just about enough for a capture)

I can't believe you have actually done it, you absolute madman. I am not surprised that it worked because some of the summons are ridiculously good but to even get through the early game slog must have been a pain in the ass. The fact that the literal first unavoidable enemy is the exact thing you need to exploit No-Legs' weakness to water is both beautifully poetic and also makes me wonder if there might be the smallest chance that maybe someone thought people would want to try this challenge and intentionally made it possible. Probably not but I like the idea. 3:26 this made me laugh hard Now I wonder what a 'no direct damage' run would look like. Basically you cannot damage foes directly (including items) but you can utilise counter-attacks along with random equipment summons. Maybe caught summons too, if you want and if you allow catching. It would probably have to be a custom game again, maybe even New Game+, but still.

There’s a flair that gives an small amount of sp every turn, but that may be cheating. Also, lance has a gun called accelerator. It is like a pocket watch, but with a 50% to give haste, 50% to give haste to a random party member (which in this case, lance) and 50% chance to slow down a foe (stun), It is non elemental. Combine with pocket watch, you can get THREE stacks of haste in a single turn! This basically breaks the challenge, combined with the sp flair. Also, the ram chip (another flair) increases your max sp by 33%. So that’s very useful. The only problem is you will have to beat the arcade boss rush, which scales to your level. Overall, great challenge. Just that those equips above completely breaks everything, but it was about the journey, not the destination.

1 player custom game rule is very neat for this. Plus, bosses cannot be refought, so yeah, rage quit if fail to capture them... @@Shyguymask Here's the math: Poseidon has 4 base capture score, boosted to 6 by your 1P custom game. Poseidon was at 38.8% health, multiplying the capture score by 4.824x. Poseidon had the Morale status, multiplying the capture score by 0.8x. Poseidon's Magic Defense was lowered by 35%, multiplying the capture score by 1.35x. You had 3 equips that boost capture score, multiplying the capture score by 1.9x. In addition to increasing the base capture score, 1P multiplies the capture score by 1.4x. I don't know how many capture score cards you had. If you had all 5, that's 1.1x capture score. All combined, this gives a catch score of 91.47. The absolute bare minimum capture score required to have any chance of a successful capture is 90.91. So, if you had all five capture score cards, it was technically possible for Poseidon to stay in the box, albeit extremely unlikely. If you were missing even a single capture score card, however, it was literally impossible for the capture to work.

Ngl, when I saw "No hacks or *glitches* " I 100% expected this video to end with a "No", the final boss without the almighty Glitch summon is really something :D I remember trying this kind of a run when v2.0 rolled out. And while my experience is a bit different (I tried that with all challenges on... and didn't actually beat that lol), there are still a few things I'd like to mention: - Something understated in the video is that this is grindy. The SP from killing enemies doesn't fully recuperate the losses from costly summons, so you'll have to keep going back to and capturing those low level slimes and bushes. A lot. - There's a fork in the first optional dungeon on the lava side that makes weak slimes surrender though, that farms SP a bit faster - Unmentioned went the Juicy Beast from Battle Arena which is the best QOL in the run. It regenerates SP every turn spent in battle, and that's important because: 1) It allows to play stall if the enemy is immune to Toxic/Virus and doesn't out-DPS your regen. It's the third most important way to battle, after toxic stall and bursting down enemies with combos/Glitch 2) Panda Bears. They don't attack at all until they are damaged which means if the ONLY enemies are undamaged Panda Bears, you can just spam Skip Turn really quickly. Incidentally there's an encounter with 3 of them and 1 dog that falls in like one Cat Warrior summon at the shrine in Greenwood. It's THE fastest and easiest way to recover SP even factoring in travel time to the encounter - Glitch summons are completely broken and you can get the weaker one almost right after the Iron Fortress. If you're REALLY stuck on Laurelin/Poseidon and just want to move on, that's an option (Neon Valhalla is the only boss other than the final one that really needs Glitch, though) - You can supplement your own regen by Virusing yourself and equipping yourself over 100% Poison resistance, I remember that being helpful against Telperion at least - The final boss is ridiculous. With extra resistances (and extra stats from optional bosses, and no level advantage) Glitch isn't enough on its own. DPS is manageable if you keep defending, but if you get disabled by a status you're done, and you can't cover even close to all of them. You can block that by stacking Bless from the clover pin and Scottish Cap, but the eyes can just dispel 3 stacks each if you're unlucky. So with that in mind it's really possible. Grab everything you can and sell it for stat boosters. Stack Bless from the pin and Scottish Cap, bring in the Spartan Cuirass and Love Blade for defensive boosts, round it up with an anti-Dispel flair. Now you can hold the line almost indefinitely (still might die if RNG hates you), but you have to conserve SP so you can combo it at the end, so your only source of DPS are the free summons from the cuirass (really rare btw) that have to hit the Devourer (20% out of all the enemies) about *12 times* before, finally, the combo (and if you need a good Glitch proc for that too, then lol). Yeeeah, this is where I gave up. - Temple of Trials is impossible (Lancelot disables both free and normal summons). Everything else is doable. Also fun fact: there is a cloud accessory that gives out extra SP on kills... and it doesn't work on kills from summons, so it's useless in this run :D

The cloud 100% work with kills from summons though, unless there is a glitch where it doesn't do so with random free summons from equips.
