Halliday is 100% right about McTominay, Rodri, Lennon and Ferguson. I think Si wants to see midfielders doing more but when you've got a player like Fernandes (or de bruyne) in the midfield you need to simplify the rest of the midfield for his benefit. Van De beek isnt that kinda player.

Sir Alex always said Scott Mctominay should be the main man in midfield at Man utd in the future when he was still there. He must have a lot of ability for him to have said that with all the players he's seen.

With the lads talking about Barry Ferguson, my hero growing up. It made me remember argument I had. The argument was with a guy at Ibrox. Pedro Mendez had just signed and first few games he looked really good. Pedro was spraying passes left, right, center. He was always looking for the ball , talking it in, keeping it in dangerous areas, you name it. And a few of the But sometimes it would go out and this guy was on Mendez case (moaning beyond belief). I tried explaining to him that.. It's not the passes, it's the players around him. You've got to be switched on. Some of his paases were tasty and inviting for confident attacking players. This was abit of a ramble , I know and slightly shy of topic. But I do believe Barry is and was one of the best Scottish mids there has been in 20+ years

I used to think McTominay wasn't quite at the level United needed but this year, and especially this season, he's really stepped up. Completely bossed PSG, Leipzig and Everton in recent weeks. Also just to pick up on Si's point - even title winning sides do just need a blocker and a tackler. Kante at Leicester and Chelsea. Makalele as well. Essien. Even Fernandinho at City. The game is changing now and Liverpool are a lot more fluid but there's still a place for a pure number 6 who just does all the hard yards and lets the creative palyers flourish. McTominay is the 3rd or 4th name on the United team sheet for me. That's a CM but he's stepped up for Scotland recently too and you have to play your best players in your biggest games. Great pod guys. The nerves are kicking in now! Come on Scotland!
