I may cry ruinin' my makeup
Wash away all the things you've taken
And I don't care if I don't look pretty
Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking
Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking
Big girls cry when their heart is breaking

Dancing isn't all about leaps and turns!Maddie has matured so much from working with Sia and it's great to see her taking her skill in expression to a level way beyond competition dance. This is what dance is about; telling stories :)

Wow, I wish I was young enough to say “when I was younger but now that I’m older” and the video is only 5 years old...you are still a child, enjoy it. Imagine what you’ll learn 30 years from now! I’m a pilot age 50. I learned to fly when I was 15 before GPS was around. I used a map and stopwatch to navigate and had to plan in advance. Now I can hop in a cockpit with glass displays and computers and fly anywhere without having to do any planning. I can change my entire flight at the push of a button enroute. I grew up with 4 channels on TV and no such thing as internet or smartphones. Just imagine what you ll get to see in your amazing lifetime. It’s a journey don’t close your eyes and don’t ever forget the ones who watched you grow because you are a miracle to them

I feel like the music video represents what happens when you need to cry but can’t. You do as much as you can to hold back tears, you do anything so that others don’t see you cry. Maddie portrayed that so well.

Yeah Stefania Decuseara! It still hits in 2020. I see this with Maddie's fist punching herself in the face. It is one of the hardest videos for me to watch because of portions of the video where Maddie has to bite her hand make me so empathetic to her cause, however I do understand why this is so integral to it's purpose. I just want to take a Kleenex or a paper towel and slightly wet it and clean and wipe Maddie Ziegler over her cheeks and face to say 'Hey Maddie, I understand where your coming from. ;)

This song got me through the death of my dad. As the oldest, I was expected to carry the emotional load of everyone else; siblings, my mother, my kids. My family just seemed to expect me to be a rock and act like nothing was wrong, so that everyone else didn't fall apart, so that's what I did. But this song...it let me know it was ok for me to grieve. That I wasn't weak or pathetic, that I lost him too. So this song became my therapist.

SIA has given me this opportunity and I am very appreciative for it. It is kind of groovy to see a girl of 12 like Maddie Ziegler who could have very well been the poster girl for Butter Mate bread in the 1960's and 1970's here harboring all these emotions instead of just a Butter Mate bread smile indeed!😊 But we're all so glad that she could apply it here in the Big girl's cry music video to her own journey in her own preteen life. 👩‍⚕ { D e c e m b e r - 1 5 t h - 2 0 2 2 }

If the majority of haters/ignorant people in these comments went to Maddie and said, "Girl, you looked possesed/psycho/crazy/disturbing in that 'Big Girls Cry' video", do you know what she would say? @@fsfobiasocial7546 this looks like a few mental problems, but it's a mix of societal pressure to be pretty enough that spirals into eating disorder and possible self-harm. in the first verse, you see her do movement that look like she's being bullied with he finger pointing, L shape on her forehead and then she's upset by it you see her put her thumb in her mouth, then it goes into when it looks like a girl puts makeup on by scribbling on her face and then wiping it. the chorus she keeps pinching parts of her face and it kind of mimics plastic surgery 'cause each time you see the expression change. the second verse you see what looks like she's trying to make her face look thinner by pressing her cheeks in then follows by what looks like she's bingeing on food then purging, the second verse is her possible mental illness taking over and controlling her actions and her trying to scream out for help but she can't and possibly making her attempt suicide. then towards the end she's physically hurting herself making her fingers in the shape of scissors and biting herself so it can be self-harm. so it's hard to put a name to what illness 'cause it's kind of a lot of them

My video interpretation: Her hands represent the sides of the brain. Right-creative and sensible, Left-logic and under control. She is dealing with depression but the left hand wants to be a grownup and pretends to be okay, while the right hand wants to cry it out like a child would (her hands are fighting with each other). So she starts taking medication to keep her thoughts under control and can't tell anyone (when she talks to her foot). She tries to ignore what people say (when she desperately covers her ears) but gets lost inside her own mind (when she seems to be rolling) and looks for help (the other hands) they try to help by making her seem happy but they overwhelm her and end up suffocating her (when the hands cover her mouth) making her feel lonelier and she attempts suicide but fails. After that she hits rock bottom and takes more pills which make her "happy" (when she's laughing a lot) now she doesn't care about pretending to be okay (when she attempts to eat her left hand) but she loses control and ends up taking an overdose in an attempt to look okay (when her left hand punches her in the face) and she ends up delusional, we don't see her hands anymore, her mind is lost.

Her songs also work partly because of her experience, her depression, the loss of her fiancé, her neurological disease. All this accumulated, forges a person, his titles and his words are affected. This is what makes Sia able to touch people so strongly with her songs.

I think anyone who finds Sia's videos "odd" " "horrible" "A joke" etc.. truly do not understand the story and pain behind it all. These videos are an expression of what Sia and many others have and are still going through. Depression, addiction, lack of self identity and utter madness. Sia has taken the chaos that goes on in an unhealthy mind and beautifully expressed it through her videos. Both Sia and Maddie are truly amazing artists and I hope to see much more from them.

Amanda Powell You don't even need the videos to truly understand the pain that Sia feels. Her voice alone is so powerful and moving that if you really listen to all of her music you can hear it. You don't need to understand Maddie's hand gestures to understand therefore you don't need to like the video to feel Sia's music. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Sia is odd but she is amazing. Being odd isn't exactly a negative thing. As I stated before I loved the video for Elastic Heart but this one just didn't do it for me because it just feels repetitive.That doesn't make me a bad person either.
@MandyC747

Kandi Fatale Where in my comment did I say that you NEED to see the videos to understand the meaning behind the songs, that no one can have an opinion and that you're a bad person if you didn't like the video? My point was that a lot of people don't get the videos (not the song lyrics) but the videos themselves. Yes, we are all entitled to our opinions, hence the comment section :)
@kandifatale7977
@kandifatale7977 9 жыл бұрын
Amanda Powell I didn't say you did say that you needed to see it. Sigh. I was just stating that the people who were saying that it was all of the things you mentioned don't necessarily need a visual to understand the video. I didn't say you said any of those things. I was just simply responding, apparently not in a way that you wanted. I wasn't attacking you, just simply stating. Calm down.

For anyone saying this is weird, yes it is weird. It's portraying a mental illness. Mental illnesses are very weird and horrible experiences. If you had experienced one you wouldn't think the video is weird because you could relate to the video. So if you don't understand it it's a good thing because it means you never had to live through one. Don't hate on something you don't understand.

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. It's not a MENTAL ILLNESS. It's Hollywood mind control combined with the military(complex). She's showing you what they do in plain sight. They feed you pills. They slap you. Put there feet on your head. They choke you. Force you to watch videos & put tear drops in your eyes(bloody occult videos). They perform MK Ultra. Hollywood is known for pedophilia, why do you think they keep putting that naked colored outfit on her? It's disgusting. WAKE UP.

+Klaudija Ahac this level of hidden symbolism in these videos is unbelievable. I've taken special courses in deciphering messages like these, and I'm blown away completely... the messages are sooo deep and hidden, I'm sure even some are lost on me. Sia is indeed likely the only person who TRULY gets it all.. even the choreographer and even Maddie herself don't understand everything. some of the symbols that still ellude me are: the pink on Maddies hand in Chandelier, and on her own and Shia's feet for elastic heart... I was waiting to see it in this one but I did'nt.. however I've also noticed Maddie's hands have gotten more and more writing on them.. "dont think" written on her left hand is new, but the house symbol is not.. these are indeed some of the most powerful videos of this generation.

I heard that the video represented child stars, and how Hollywood manipulates them- I.e. 0:32 being forced to stop acting like a child and having makeup plastered all over them the lighting change at 1:06 for the exhausting performances she has to do (hence why she's so against it on the 'phone') 1:32 either being bulimia from the pressures to look perfect or going down the path of most child stars and becoming involved with alcohol/drugs etc (hence why her world starts spinning and she's driven mad) The hands are the industry controlling her life/every move and literally suffocating her (note the lighting change again) Acting as if everything is fine when in the limelight at 2:53 despite being deeply scared and unhappy in reality And then eventually being left alone and unwanted after rebelling and/or growing up at the end

***** Who the hell cares its music its not like they are raping children in this video... Thats what I have to say about that. It may be what people call sexual but I don't really think so the child dancer represents the innocence we all have as a child and a lot of her song are about that being taken away

@@thynguyen5523 It must be the lighting then. I keep seeing her eye color switch dark jungle green to lighter a than lighter blue. It starts at 52 seconds and then it goes back to a light blue at 1:18 seconds of the 'Big girl's cry' video. Now i am thinking all this time that i was just imagining it because i do see her lovable bright blue eyes through out the video for the most part. Did you know that Maddie Ziegler was still 12 at this point in her luxurious career? :) ;) :) May - 21st - 2022 . :) @ 3:01 seconds of 'The Big girl's video' 12 year old Maddie Ziegler pulls her right under lid a bit downward with her right thumb perfectly straight up. Her thumb must be an inch and a half long, so beautifully extent to attention long. April - 2nd - 2015 and Maddie Ziegler is five months from her 13th birthday here. @@jeffreyleitner5854 yea I searched some info about her and knew that she was 12 when filmed this. Absolutely amazing, I can only say that. About her eye colour changing, I thought it might be the light that gave you that impression. Anw, that wasn't related to the meaning of the song, so they didn't have to make her eye colour change, in my opinion. 22/5/2022...

@@thynguyen5523 Yes the lighting or lack there of ( black cloth backing ) and the distance at the beginning for the first 36 seconds to the camera can fool you into thinking when she plays with her face cheeks like she is wiping off some blueberry pie cream away at the 17 - 18 second mark there. Although directly 12 year old 'Maddie Ziegler' is perfectly lit up front and center. Three times she wipes her mouth and then hooks her baby finger in the right hand side of her corner mouth. Yes you are right that the meaning of the song is not directly related to the change of color in her eyes although the theme of change is a huge part of Sia wanting to change her father from his addiction to liquor. The hook of which 12 year old 'Maddie Ziegler' demonstrates may be the hook of becoming addicted. The green color of her eyes may signify the green bottle of addiction. Her blue eyes may signify the restriction of alcohol and then only clear blue water remains. This is my version of the blue - green theory. What do you think of my deduction, Thy Nguyen? :) ;) :) May - 24th - 2022. :)

For those who don't know what it's about, I will tell you my interpretation of the video. To me it's about a girl maybe in her teens that is struggling with looks, she tries to change herself yet she still feels not good enough. She begins to loosen up but still hates herself, upon what she sees in the mirror she begins self harm. She finally makes a choice and tries to hang herself but she can't do it.I believe she starts taking antidepressants but takes too many to try to take the pain away. She then begins to fade away but she learns life is worth living and NOTHING is so bad that you need to take away your life and meaning. I may not be right but that's what is see and read from this video. Thanks you taking the time to read my input. (:
