As someone who works at an Animal Shelter, I cannot describe how emotional this song makes me. It breaks my heart every time someone surrenders their old dog. Sometimes they aren’t even that old, but because they aren’t a tiny puppy anymore they are deemed “old and slow.” I want to blast thing song through my shelter every holiday season! This song is lighthearted and fun but it touches a very serious topic, a lot of kids want puppies for christmas and they love them while they are, well, puppies, and when they start to grow up and not be pups anymore they are put aside like they're not worth anything, this is more common than you might think, I've volunteered at a dog shelter and around Christmas people would adopt all the puppies, 6 or 7 months later I would see the majority of those dogs again, only a bit older, seeing things like this was what made me give up helping in the shelter, I'm someone who REALLY loves animals and seeing stuff like this would make me extremely sad, to the point I couldn't take it anymore... Please, if you're getting a puppy for Christmas, keep in mind that they are a living creature and they want your love and affection for their whole life, not just while they're puppies, the same goes to kittens and any other animal!! If you know you're not ready to commit to an animal like that, don't get one! Puppies are forever!

Not just dogs, but other animals as well. Almost all of my animals are ones that were strays and proud to say that the oldest cat and dog are turning 14 in 2019

Yes! All the animals are really cute when they are "babies". When they grow up someone can think that it was more cuter before, but I think that it doesn't go enywhere! Of course when dogs are puppies they may do something funny but not when they grow up, but their personality don't go enywhere! Our one year old collie died.. reading that comment made me cry. I'm happy that our family gave him love everyday.

My family adopted the sweetest little puppy that was a Christmas dump-off in late January. He had painted toenails and he was about 3 months old, the only conclusion the shelter could come up with was that he was a Christmas puppy that became "too much", he was dumped at the pound by the owner. I have no idea if that's what happened but this song always makes me think of little Wrigley who is the happiest most loved little pound puppy and he's living his best life now.
