I think it wasn't meant to be. They were never at the right place, at the same time. They wanted different things. He wanted to get married, she was focused on her educational goal. He wanted to leave his wife, but she didn't want to be the shameful person and reputation of breaking up a marriage. While they didn't have a physical relationship, they did have an emotional affair. He divorced his wife, but she was with someone else. It just wasn't meant to be. This story wasn't about his first wife, but I felt really bad for her. She had terrible luck with love and marriage. Yes, they both didn't share an educational goal.
