I am Singaporean who used to work in KL, before this I worked in Sydney, Melbourne, Seattle, NY and HK. I have to say never have I seen Muslims are so insecure than in Malaysia. The amount of restrictions as though the country KPI is to secure muslims to heaven. Religion is a private matter between oneself and god (whichever religion one may chose). There is no such thing as labelling someone less islamic than the other, again its a private matter. My view in Malaysia people with whatever level of knowledge of Islam are racing each other to appear to be more islamic than the other. In doing so, many use their own ideology and picked out of context dalil to suit their ideology. The situation is pretty dire in my personal view. Quran is for everyone, we need to study not just reading or memorize without understanding its true meaning and teaching. Do not listen 100% to modern day ulamas, use our intellect to know what makes sense and what doesn’t. Don’t get fooled by the lengths of their beard, the dress and songkok without judging the words coming their mouth. There is no new standard of doa or a specific way that doa will be fulfilled as Allah knows everything and always listening. But listen to fatwas issued by regulated bodies as they would consult other Islamic scholars before issuing fatwas.

To be honest I'm a mualaf...and already have regrets...not because of the religion..because of the society and thinking and also the lost teachings nowdays..it's so confusing... even though not says it's simple. Bravo Mariam Mokhtar! As a Malay who went to an all-Malay boarding school, I heard so many speeches / tazkirah laden with paranoia about other cultures and religions. I was riddled with cognitive dissonance, anger, and frustration as I couldn’t reconcile them with my warm childhood experiences growing up with non-Malay/ non-Muslim friends at primary school. I realise now that the boarding school environment was really an echo-chamber driven by teachers and students with loud and paranoid religious views that went largely unopposed and unchecked. Malaysia needs its people to be more inclusive, integrated and more understanding of one another, not the other way around! We shouldn’t be repeating our so-called value of “religious tolerance” - we should be *embracing* our unique Malaysian composition of having various cultures and religions under one roof, and appreciate the common values enshrined in each religion and community that have brought about peace and civility in Malaysia!

I am a Hindu who was educated in mission schools both Catholic and Methodist , went to Church and also participated in the respective feast days. A Malay pupil who overheard me discussing aspects of christianity with a catholic pupil asked me if l was still a Hindu. I am because I see no reason to change. She also asked if there were malays who were not muslims. I told her there were hindus in Bali and Christians in Sumatra who kept to their ancestral religions. That l believe is a fact.

I visited all places of worship and respected them. But i am still a free thinker. I believe that there are countless gods who are powerful and some are less but all up in the cosmos. I am comfortable to be a free thinker. I believe in kindness and compassion to all sentients beings. I do some donation when i see they need help. My logic taught me this path. I am 69 years old and am healthy and happy with life. I also know we should expect to die around 70 to 95 years old. I am also not interested about where my soul will go to. When it is over ,It's finished .

@@akmaldawson5187 God made man despite any religion. Religion only came about when each man had his own idea on who God is. God is only one but he has many personalities or persons in him. Jesus taught about who God is because he came from God himself as the word of God been made into flesh. He is the spirit of God that God made into human form. He is not birthed (through sex) like how the muslims say he is. No other religion teaches anything like this. Jesus was Jewish. Christianity started when people decided to trust and believe what Jesus told them about God. You can read Gospel of John Chapter 14 to 17 and decide whether you want to believe what Jesus says.

If that is the case, so many missionary school muslim students would have converted to christianity. I had travelled the 5 continents and there are 2 architectures which personally are the greatest designs of all times for me. one was a mosque and now a cathedral called Mezquita Cordoba, a cathedral that called a mosque. one was a cathedral but now a mosque called Hagia Sophia, right next to the Blue Mosque. Di usia saya muda dahulu, saya berbelas kali masuk gereja. Tugas saya untuk merakam activity majlis perkahwinan. Dalam satu perjalanan ke NZ saya pernah sembahyang bersama Boss saya dalam Gereja di airport. Puan, I am an ex-PTD now retired. As a new recruit in 1978, i was required to stay in Pusat Islam in Masjid Negara for a week and learn about basic tenets of Islam. I am one of the lucky ones to have gone through this Program. I have never regretted my stay at Pusat Islam.

Talking about this, i wish more people from different races and religions are curious about other religions. I wish they come to see and ask just to find out more about how things work when we visit the 'tempat beribadat' of our religion. Come in and take a look. We would explain to you and no one would ask you to join in. Just come, see, thats all. I have even gone with my friends when they had to do their prayer first. I respected them, and they respect me too! ❤❤❤

I'am not Muslim,but do understand about different races traditional beliefs and culture..do and don't...much more knowledge about Islam..but I didn't change my faith..most Malays will ask me to convert to Islam,since more the less,I understand their religious beliefs.my answer was simple..why should I change to another faith..if Islam is the only purest religion,I should have born there,Allah would have send everyone to be born Muslim...

I don't have problem visiting mosques. I have visited mosques. My faith is not so weak that the moment I stepped into a mosque I become muslim. Don't be silly that a person changes religion because they visit other houses of worships. I enjoy my char siew pork and my pint of beer too much to give them up to be a muslim. And I can still be as kind and charitable.

Went in Church on two occasions during my lifetime.. Attending a friend death and receiving donations or alms during Christmas Eve. Years ago seen non Muslim tourists (or maybe new convert) went in a Mosque and imitated or follow the Islamic ways of performing prayers and were despised by one Muslim.
