It might be the best performance of this symphony on the channel. I like how flexible she is with the tempi. The shining climax of the first movement, rustic and playful energy of the adagio, grandeur of the finale - she feels them with her body naturally and captures everything right. Brava 👏And as always thanks to the first-class musicians of the orchestra.

Gorgeous!!! Well-played & well-led; she seemed to be flexible in her tempi, especially in the second movement. I think that worked well; I heard detail I've missed in 30 years of listening to this! I also like Maestra Staskeva's 'artists smock': a shock of color to remind us this is a spring symphony.

This is sensational. This interpretation is genuinely idiosyncratic and "different" - in a good way. ❤️ So many performances of this work are virtually identical, I usually think, "What? Another performance of the Sibelius 5th? Why bother? They're all the same, by now." This conductor removed a lot of dust and convention from a generally predictable work. Thank you to everyone involved in this performance. Best wishes from Vermont 🍁

Meine Lieblingssinfonie. Ich liebe Sibelius! Wie zart hier der 2. Satz endet und gleich in den 3. Satz übergeht. Hervorragend.

A special thought to the conductor, born in Kyiv, and to her martyred country.

Exceptional performance of an exceptional symphony. Dalia Stasevska is new to me, but I look forward to more of her work.

Its more cosmopolitan in sound and flavour than it is Finnish in character. The outbursts of sound and tempo changes don't really capture the almost secretive and mystical quality that permates Sibelius' music.
@sansovino41246 ай бұрын
Sorry to dissent but there is no magic or spontaneity in this - it all sounds forced to me. One of the most wonderful moments in all music, the transition between the old first and second movements, is quite poor, no flow, no rythmic identity. I really don't like this and I love most things on this wonderful channel.
@TapanilaMosabacka3D5 ай бұрын
You're right, but that comment goes down like a fart in church under all the uncritical gushing, fawning fans here.
@fl16064 ай бұрын
I hate that I’m agreeing with this, but… I’m agreeing with this. The orchestra sounded sloppy and stressed. The phrases didn’t have life. The end of the first movement should be rapturous, but this felt like they were just playing notes. The ending of the finale didn’t have that amazing tension that makes this piece amazing. It was just… tense. I saw Dalia conduct this live with another symphony and it was similar. Both of these orchestras are better than this. This is truly one of my top-5 favorite pieces ever. I wanted to love this so much, but I didn’t.

@TapanilaMosabacka3D5 ай бұрын
This symphony falls apart under this conductor. In her attempt to make every note and phrase pregnant with meaning the flow and momentum disappear. And the simian grimaces and posturing don't help either.
@fl16064 ай бұрын
Agree. There is no motion here. No joy. No flow. No tension, just tense playing. And I know the orchestra plays better than this.
