Siberian Husky Dog Breed
Breed History
The Siberian Husky was bred from Spitz genetic family about 3,000 years ago by the nomadic Indian tribe Chukchi for the purpose of sledding.
The Chukchi people bred the Siberian Husky as part of their aim of producing the ultimate sled-dog.
They needed dogs that had a strong pack mentality and were able to work well in a team, as well as having extreme endurance and stamina to run for long periods of time.
Laika refers to a type of hunting dog of Northern Russia and Russian Siberia.
Fédération Cynologique Internationale uses the word Laika in the names of three standard breeds: Russian European Laika (FCI standard No. 304), West Siberian Laika (FCI 306), and East Siberian Laika (FCI 305), Laika means Barker in Russian Language
Appearance
Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working dog and It is recognizable by its thickly furred double coat, erect triangular ears, and distinctive markings.
Face - Siberians tend to resemble a wolf -like appearance; they can have a stripe down their face and/or have a mask around their eyes.
Ears - Huskies have pointed, triangular, erected set of ears. Like most dogs they have very good hearing.
Tail - Huskies typically have a bushy tail that is usually curved over the back. Most Siberians have a white tipped tail.
Coat - Siberians can come in a variety of colors. Most tend to have white legs and paws, facial markings and a white tipped tail.
The most common color is black and white. They do come in other colors such as grey and white, brown and white, reddish and white, cream and white, silver and white, all white and mostly all brown/reddish (very rare). Grooming…..
Siberian Husky coat consists of two layers,( thickly furred double coat ) an undercoat and a topcoat. It is able to withstand temperatures as low as −50 to −60 °C (−58 to −76 °F). The undercoat is often absent during shedding. Their thick coats require weekly grooming.
