I've been silent for too long... but whoever does the audio for the episodes needs to know that the intro music audio level constantly sounds like an explosion after a quiet ad-read and the actual episode starting. 😭

Bob’s voice is as neutral as it can get. He uses his voice more dynamically than most straight men but he lacks all the hallmarks of what makes a voice “sound gay.” It’s a 5 for me
@starling868 ай бұрын
It would be interesting to know which hallmarks you are referring to. But "the gay" in our voices (and gestures) depends entirely on what he is talking about and who he is talking to, as well as any sociopragmatic goals he may have....this is true for all of us.

As a gay who majored in Linguistics (just plugging this in for no reason), in terms of the VERY scientific metric for general tone, pitch, and inflection, I'd say Bob overall is a 7/10 on the 💅scale, whereas Monét overall is a 8.25 on the 💅scale. Bob's general pitch is standard for someone AMAB; Monét's pitch is very deep, way deeper than most people who were AMAB, prompting the iconic "Are y'all boys or a girl? I have a question because y'all sound like you are both men?" from the boy on Stereo. In terms of general tone and delivery, Bob is a little more calculated and deadpan, like when saying (instigating), "So you think _____ is a piece of shit." Monét tends to have a more excited way of expressing her words. During the root beer discussion, Bob is speaking pretty steadily, but when Monét responds and then returns to the main topic, the way she says " Ew... ginger beer is too spicy~" following with "Okay! So my point was saying YES I know about Ebonics, but.." Her tone is brighter, maybe because she's concertedly trying to stay on topic, but I find this in her speech patterns even though her voice is much deeper. Now in terms of inflection, Bob goes from 0 to 100 and back to 0 in mere syllables, but Monét's is more erratic. When they argued about giving each other compliments and Bob discusses touring with Mo Heart, Monét is like, "No you dOoOn't! That's not true! Give me the ocular proof." Bob responds with, "Bring it down an octave" which is lusciously followed by Bob's Mo Heart impersonation IMMEDIATELY after, "IT'S PUSSY, HUNNY. OH, IT'S PUSS, YEEESSSS". Obviously the way either of them speaks depends on the pragmatics and subject matter, mood, etc., but I genuinely think Bob is the less clockable one of the two, and that's coming from someone who is a 10/10. Lmaoo

Maybe it isn’t a hot take but, would anyone else agree that the power we instill into these celebrities is kinda dangerous? Like, yeah, we can have favorites and maybe it is just the fact that millions of people like these artists for what they create. However com-ma’am, the fact that they can move a culture for good or for bad just by changing aesthetic or genre of performance is crazy. I love Bey, I ride or die for her but that is what I’m saying. I’m aware of my obsession but, the fact that she, one singular person, had the ability to open me to country is crazy! And now, I’m curious to see how fashionable I can get because “western” is an area I’ve never played in before but, admittedly it has its good things about it.

I was listening to country since middle school. I'm confused how people are discovering country through Beyonce. Beyonces country album is the most stripped down and plain country music I've ever heard in my life. There are plenty of exciting and soulful country artists out there and always have been lol.
@BlueIvysBlackberry8 ай бұрын
They didn’t say they just discovered country lol. They said Beyoncé made them open to listening to it which is their point. The country artists you enjoy didn’t move them to listen, but because Beyoncé is their fave, they listened to Beyoncé’s country album.

I remember at a Durand Bernarr concert in Philly, he had someone come out on stage first and she said the n word will be said a lot during this show, this is not an invitation for the white people in the crowd to participate. Which makes me think there had be occurrences of white people singing the n word at this shows. I was one of 5 white people at the concert and it was one of the best shows I've been to. You just simply don't sing along to words you shouldn't say and enjoy the show. Same thing at the Nicki concert, I just rap the clean version 🤣

Hmmmm, interesting take on queer vernacular...I thought it was clear that much of its origin was derived from Black women...not the other way around. 🤔 I do believe queer people have played a part in AAVE/queer vernacular reaching the masses and being popularized, but the origins of much of it has always felt...Black...because...it is. 👀 Anyhow...love you two! ❤
