this was SUCH a good episode!! I've got so many thoughtsss on ai art/media and theft; I still don't fully get the technology, but someone described software like chatGPT + art Generators as being like a meat grinder. Going into one end is every piece of media the developers fed into it, all of which was sourced from the art other people created. AI churns out a compiled version of this to best fit whatever request you've made of it. How original is what it's produced? Can this just be passed off as referencing? That tiktok monet showed was hilarious, i feel like asking AI what an AI timeline into the future looks like is going to give you a skewed answer just because the material it references in order to answer the request has to already exist? And currently we really only have 2 poles - content in which AI dominates + subjugates the world, or this idea of AI as helpful servants for mankind. Do idk if it's AI telling us what it's going to do, or if it's just a regurgitation of what we think AI is going to do. I wonder how AI is going to fit into jobs that require ethical decision making e.g. law, medicine etc: AI has no morals bc it isn't sentient, it doesn't experience anything. it can only go based off of the rules it's developers write for it. If an AI is programmed w every law and statute in the land, sure it fulfills the knowledge of a judge, but the judgement aspect requires a moral/ethical standpoint, based on prior experience. Does AI send a first time shoplifter to jail for X days bc that's what the rulebook says? Or does it let them go free bc the offender was destitute, and was stealing baby formula? Who is placing the numerical value upon each of these factors for AI to weigh up? The value of these attributes in determining a punishment are v subjective imo + are based on your own personal experience, AI literally isn't capable of having an experience this is so long but i had to braindump 💗

@Monet. You don’t have to worry about an AI take over. One of the biggest limitation of AI currently is computing power. A lot of the ideas and algorithms/statistical models that Chat GPT is built upon have been around 80s and before. However, they were physically impossible to compute because computer chips and computer processing power was unable to handle the amount of data needed train and maintain these models.

there is this video i watched on youtube, about 8 years ago, called "will work for free". it is basically about how AI/Robots can basically already do every job, but it can't work in a capitalistic society because everyone needs jobs to make money to buy stuff. the alternative is to give everyone a living wage, like stimulus checks, full time, but again Capitalism is against free handouts. it is really interesting to think about.

I'm not sure if graphic designers are using ai, but coders are using to test code they've written, document code, troubleshoot code with it. It's taken some very tedious, lengthy tasks and turned them into mere seconds. I just recently used it to build me a study path for some coding refreshers. It's a really cool tool!

as an illustration/animator AI is absolutely the worst thing ever. people who claim to be “AI artists” aren’t artists they are just coders and tech bros who just want to make money. it’s not art. ALSO every single image generator does not ask permission to use art and images it just steals and sources them from the internet. So people can also abuse the hell out of that. you can ask AI to generate an image based on an art style from an artist and use their name to sell art. You can also use their name/sourced art to make super controversial art and ruin the artists public image. There is people already using it instead of sources artists who right now REALLY don’t need their art jobs being stolen. There is small benefits to AI but they to do not compare to the insane drawbacks. Like i’ve definitely used AI art as reference the way i use other artists work as reference to develop my work. to be honest, that’s about as much benefit it can give. PAYING for AI art is also absurd because you’re paying a tech bro to just type a bunch of words in a system to pump out something soulless as fuck. PAY ARTISTS!
