I'm autistic as well. When I first started middle school, I was so terrified at the sight of people that I was shaking real bad. I used to get bullied by people saying that I was not enough. Now I'm in high school and doing better than ever. People don't Bully me anymore, my anxiety is getting better, and I'm surrounded by an amazing group of friends. Thank you 😊 for supporting the autistic community!!!

I'm autistic too, and they are so sweet. I love the sibling bond they have. It looks like they have so much fun together! Autism is not an illness, a disease, or even a disorder as it's been unfortunately misnamed. It's a neurotype. Thank you for showing that autistic people are awesome and worthy. #AutismAcceptanceMonth #AutismAcceptance ♾♾♾

Thank you for sharing. My 7 year old was diagnosed at age 2.5. My daughter is 10 months behind him. She has grown up watching him get all the attention and not understanding why. Its created resentment. They still have a good relationship. But she doesn’t understand. Also people do not understand autism. Just because they can talk, doesnt mean it isnt autism.

My son and I are both autistic, and you’re right. People do not understand. I’m more high functioning than my son, and no one else in my family has autism. Even certain family members don’t know how to interact with my son, because he reacts differently to everything and can’t communicate his feelings or needs well. Even I don’t know how to respond to him at times. I’ve been scolded for his meltdowns, even though he very rarely has them.

I have a milder case of autism. Not only do I hate stereotypes about autism, but stereotyping in general. I believe in going by the facts, not assumptions. I have to say, I fell like Today could have done a better job being accommodating. It is a well known that many people on the spectrum don’t like eye contact when talking, so why setup the chairs facing each other so closely? Also, the Terminology used was a bit condescending. They went straight into talking to the sister, and used the word little twice, “Little videos, and little bag”. I also feel they might not have given a list of questions ahead. I felt like I could in real time see him processing the words just as I was. I loved seeing him get the jersey and I really adore what these two are doing. But maybe next time they could setup the seats a bit differently?

I really do wonder how my daughter truly feels having 2 Autistic brothers. I mean she’s so good with them and very protective! But I can tell by her questions that she knows they’re autistic, but still doesn’t fully understand what the effects are. I pray she doesn’t feel burdened or left out, Bc as much as I’d like to think I’m doing my best to make her feel just as important. Im sure there is something I’m lacking though. Ugh

It might be a good idea to just ask her how she feels about it. It's best to clear up any negative or misunderstanding now while she and her brothers are young. Sad to say, many people hate their autistic siblings to the point of bullying them. Sorting things out should be done sooner than later.
@Marcydalmatian

@@SNF122784 Have you thought about asking them? Autistic kids usually know they're different early in life so talking about it will definitely help their mental health rather not mentioning it at all.

@@SNF122784 I understand. Non speaking autistic people do understand more than others realize. If he's able to write or type, that might be a place to start. As for your daughter, if you have Disney Plus, there's a wonderful Pixar short film called Loop. One of the main characters is a non speaking autistic girl, might be a good idea to watch it then have a conversation afterwards.

I hate having autism spectrum disorder because when you have parents who don’t understand the disability it is not easy. I had it so mild growing up and now most people can’t tell I’m on the spectrum at all….but I had a mother with her own mental health issues that was more like abuse and that is not something to be happy about. I think what needs to be shared more about autism is also the fact that parents don’t always have the tools to deal with a child who has a different way of thinking. Autism spectrum disorder is a disability but it also isn’t. It is a different genetic wiring in your brain as he said here. We need more awareness especially to parents who need to understand that they cannot force us to think a certain way. Also me having mild autism and PTSD is really hard but thankfully I have a great therapist who I see every week. Anyway this is a very sweet story.

I relate to you and your comment. Growing up was difficult, and my parents never understood what was going on with me. Back in the 70’s and 80’s Autism was not a well known “disorder”, so I suffered in silence. I could not tell them exactly how I felt, I just knew I was different. Now that I’m almost 50, it’s great to see more parents become aware of ASD. I am still unable to do some daily activities, but I do have family that support me.

Your comment is a great example of why Ryan and others with autism feel that the message, "autism is NOT an illness" is so important. Although the rest of your comment is sweet, and the beginning of your comment doesn't seem to be ill-intentioned - there is nothing "wrong" with people who have autism. As Ryan and his mother described - autism is just a different way of how the brain functions, but it does not make a person any less, and again, it isn't an illness, so while I cannot speak for the people who have autism as I do not - I would imagine that the beginning of your comment is quite offensive, and I advise that you remove this comment, and re-comment with the first 5 words removed. Ryan "seems fine" because he is fine. There is nothing wrong with him. Ryan is simply amazing, and this video was simply awesome. :)
