The purse thing I do think is a southern thing. My grandma who is very southern once told me that a man should never go through my purse or anyone for that matter. Originally Wolverine's claws were not part of his mutation. When they showed x-rays of his claws/arms, they were clearly mechanical. It was only in 1993 when Wolverine's adamantium was pulled out of his body my Magneto that the bone claws were introduced, then retconned to having been original

Wolverine initially did not have bone claws in his history until 1993’s X-Men # 25 (vol 2) revealed he’d always had them. In the canon, originally the claws were originally part of his costume (Incredible Hulk 181, 1974), when he joined the X-Men later that year they retconned that, and made his claws a part of him, but it had always been assumed they were a part of experimentation that made him lose his memory. Fast forward to 1993 where it was decided he always had bone claws.

Wolverine has a mutation which gives him two abilities. Healing factor and Retractible bone claws. Before he was retcon, the claws were implanted into his body then magneto ripped them out. Then he grew out his bone claws which is how they introduced that he’s always had bone claws.
