The way we approach mental healthcare in the U.S. for people who need help the most is strange and carceral and a lot of individuals end up harmed by these systems. The abuse makes the mental health problems even worse. It’s setting people up for failure. Not saying Britney doesn’t need help. Ppl need to stop scrutinizing Britneys behaviour. I'm not even a huge fan as an artist, but why is it so hard to have some empathy? Of course she looks a bit unstable she's been through a lot. Let her breathe and heal. Every time someone says she looks unstable, you're adding to the argument that she should go back to the conservatorship. Even if you think she's a bit off, she's better off if you keep it to yourself.
@georgimihailov49068 ай бұрын
She doesn't at any more unstable than Logan Paul, who literally saw the body of a person who had unalived himself in Japan and nervously laughed about it. That was unstable behavior. Like why did you go to that forest in Japan?!
@kelpo63048 ай бұрын
Shia LaBeouf has been mentally unstable for years, has admitted to physically and sexually assaulting at least one woman, and has allegations from another. no one's been yelling to put him in a conservatorship. I'm not arguing that Shia should be in a conservatorship, it's just bizarre that Britney being harmlessly weird or seeming unstable while displaying no concrete signs of being a threat to herself, makes people think she deserves to have her basic rights taken away again. I genuinely do think part of it is misogyny. people still have the subconscious (sometimes conscious) belief in female hysteria and that women can't be trusted with control of their own lives. they get uneasy and even angry when a woman is anything but blandly pleasant back when lobotomies were popular, the vast majority of lobotomzed patients were women experiencing depression or anxiety, often in response to very legitimate stressors in their lives. their husbands and doctors would rather give a woman surgical brain damage to make her emotionally numb and leave her incapable of taking care of herself, than have a woman be anything but an agreeable, passive housewife. tbh the lobotomization of mostly functional (if distressed) women to make them more compliant and passive is not incredibly different from how Britney was unnecessarily medicated without her consent by her father. I'm sure that some medication was helpful because that lady has been through serious trauma, but she has also said that during her conservatorship, she was forced to go on lithium for refusing to do a certain dance move thankfully lobotomies are no longer in vogue and hopefully Britney's medication will have less long-term effects than a lobotomy. but people are still irrationally distressed by a woman acting "strangely" or displaying negative emotions, and assume she can't be trusted with basic autonomy over her own life
@bicho63138 ай бұрын
@kelpo6304 Yup the same mentality that tried to break Britney in the early 2000s is still at it now. This woman is so resilient and still keeps it positive. That's fucking admirable. People like that are a gift to the world and those who are dead inside can tell and want to squish that down.

on the topic of aphasia, my mom recently had a stroke a few weeks ago and has it. My mom knows what she is trying to communicate, but the wrong words come out sometimes. For example, the other day she wanted to go out and get a fountain pop from gas station, but she kept on saying 'let's go get a kids meal.' Her brain must have connected pop with a fast food so that came out instead. She doesn't notice the wrong words come out of her mouth usually, but when you start to ask questions like 'well were do you want to get a kids meal at' she starts giving you the look of 'what the hell are you talking about?'. She knows when your follow up statements/questions don't match with what she is trying to communicate. After noticing you can start you try to connect the dots and see what they're actually trying to say. It doesn't happen every time she talks, but a few times a day. I'm sure it is different from everyone, but that's been my experience with it so far.

i used to work for public guardian managing public conservatorships, so maybe i can shed some light on how conservatorships come to be. for britney spears, it was a private conservatorship which means that someone in her family took the medical/social history and brought it before a court to advocate that said person is no longer at capacity to make sane decisions for their health, finances, and wellbeing. that is how she was placed on one privately. for everyone else who doesn’t have money for private conservatorship, they get referred by either hospitals or the general public over to public guardian. mental health patients must have been institutionalized as “5150” and determined to be unfit to care for themselves, public guardian investigates, and then if they see this person is vulnerable and has no one else to pursue the conservatorship, PG will bring it before the court and then manage their livelihood from that point on. this applies to ppl of all ages, not just older folks. but public guardian usually steps in when ppl are especially vulnerable to things like financial, emotional, or physical abuse. there’s two different departments, one for ppl who are older and have dementia (these patients can be referred to conservatorship by anyone), and then there’s mental health patients who were institutionalized (any age, referred specifically by a hospital for 5150)

With the Britany Spears thing (9:30), she uses Instagram and tiktok EXACTLY how Howie Mandel uses it. I don't think we need to be saying "it seems like shes not all there mentally", clearly when a man acts like that we just see him as a goofy uncle using social media.

@ensabahnur31048 ай бұрын
Because her lipsynchs are... 🔥, she eats them up, it's not even a contest. You can see RuPaul always look at the other contestant like "girl what is your rebuttle, cause she is swallowing you whole, I can't save you." (Plus Ru already saved Q, when Amanda beat her, and it's not "track record for your life," so that was only going to happen once.)

Standing ovulation for Bob's thoughtful articulation on a very serious subject matters! There's bridges being built between these not so uncommon mental health struggles and popular public figures going through similar things. And between all of the unnecessary scrutiny there's also other perspectives and understanding coming through. I find it so impactful and important seeing other prominent figures as yourselves speaking up/casually addressing it. There's that old adage: 'everyone loves your crazy ass until your ass is actually crazy.' but one cognitive lapse shouldn't define you, no way it could lol. but it is wild how it can cost you everything. for some interesting reads check out some oliver sacks books!~

The thing is Britney has no issue when put under the conservatorship. We’re seeing her now after many years of abuse. For all she endured she is pretty sane.

If you're "neurodivergent" and poor you can remain free, but if you're "neurodivergent" and rich someone needs to "take care" of your money thus a conservator ship.

Thank you for giving Britney the benefit of the doubt. If anyone is confused about the way she acts or portrays herself, please please read her book. She is getting to live for the first time in her life and she is just trying to do what makes her happy without facing public scrutiny. Mental health issues are a part of someone not a defining factor. I agree with Bob when they said we think she’s crazy bc we’ve been told she is when in reality she’s a human that has been through more than we’ll really know. Just send love her way or let her live. Love the episode overall I love your energies. Much love stay safe everyone ❤

I think they let Plasma go because the producers dont see her winning the season especially when you have Nymphia, Sapphira, Q and Plane. It was an easy decision to let go of Plasma despite her 2 wins.
