Another interesting tidbit, BLACKPINK was originally slated to be a nine girl group. Over time it was reduced to five, then one member broke her contract when she was discovered to be dating someone (Their contract forbids "Rookies" from Drinking, Smoking, Clubbing, Driving, Dating and Plastic Surgery), leaving the remaining four to debut. (Happily the fifth member, Miyeon, joined the group (G)-IDLE, who is having a successful career.)

All the members except for Lisa are fully korean by ethnicity. Jennie lived abroad in New Zealand for 5 years and Rosé was born and raised in New Zealand/ Australia. Lisa came from Thailand so she knew literally no korean. Jisoo never lived abroad so she speaks mainly korean only. A lot of korean companies don’t want their foreign trainees to communicate in another language except for korean, which is why it was very hard for Rosé and Lisa. Even these two are still a bit insecure about their korean till this day. The kpop industry is very hard to debut in and a lot of people underestimate these trainee periods. Btw yg is known for mistreating literally all their groups/artists 2ne1, Blackpink, ikon, winner etc in all different type of ways. Their agency does very bad things behind the scenes that got exposed last year, which damaged and affected the activities of Blackpink even more.

YGE was "accused" and "allegedly" was involved in criminal activities. They been under a microscope and investigated thoroughly by the authorities for the past couple years. Out of all the accusations and charges, no conclusive evidence were found and never went to court except for one charge. YG himself and Seungri from Bigbang were charged with gambling. They gambled at casinos about 5 times in the past 5 years when they were in Las Vegas. Even though its perfectly legal to gamble in Vegas, it's still a criminal act for all S. Korean citizens. So please don't spread false information just because it's your opinion. 2 years of thorough investigations by the S. Korean authorities cleared all accusations but yet fans from the other side of the world think they are Sherlock Holmes and know everything.

Kill This Coconut I don’t believe that there’s nothing that happened. Money and power could get you anywhere in this world. Anyways all of that has damaged their company more. Also the whole b.i case has made korea not like a lot of these groups anymore, because of the fact that they’re in that company. I can’t say much about non of these cases, but I’m not going to defend any of them neither.

Very good reaction and comments (as usual)! One point I must agree with is the loyalty and tenacity of their fandom, the BLINKS. We are incredibly loyal, not only because of the fact that their music is great and they are very talented, but also because we know how hard and long the girls worked, how much passion they have and how sweet, sincere and real they are. Sometimes we need to be their voices, as they cannot say what they really feel to their company, how unfairly they are treated and how mismanaged the group and it's trajectory is. And you're correct regarding the amount of content they have vs. the revenue they're creating, it is very "cheeky". (I actually have a better word but I'll stop myself here).

Korean groups rarely disband because of misunderstanding within the group. They disband because of company choice basically. These groups are formed and raised as a family. That is why even after they disband, they remain as family. ❤

I think the girls started training at the entertainment company (YG) at around 13 to 16 depending on the members. And at those ages you are still growing up. Especially for the foreign members (Lisa and Rosé) an important part of their "growing up" was without parents. So I think that was a huge factor of them being very close. Can't wait for part 2!!!

Some of the blinks in korea protested by paying money for a billboard and parked it outside of YG's building. YG is essentially dangling the carrot in front of the fans. When they release their comeback this year, it will break records.

Guys, their label had a rough year. 2019 definitely wasn't YG's year. A lot of scandals happened which made sponsors back up and the agency lost a lot of money. Of course, this doesn't mean they couldn't afford to give a release from BP but it was too risky, I think. Let's wait for this early in the year comeback that we were promised. (But knowing YG, until we see a teaser, we can't expect much). Thank you for being so genuine!!! 🖤💖

Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé are pure koreans. Jennie was born in Korea but she moved in New Zealand but she is PURE korean. Rosé was born in New Zealand but she is also PURE korean. Both of her parents are korean. After she was born in New Zealand, they moved to Australia and that is where she grew up. Though she is not 100% fluent in korean. More like 85%. She said that sometimes when she is nervous she talks like a foreigner. Only Lisa is not korean related since she is born in Thailand and of course she's a Thai. Hope this helps♥️

Jisoo - was born and raise in Korea Jennie - was born in Korea but studied in New Zealand.. she’s a full blooded Korean Rosé - was born in New Zealand then moved to Australia and grew up there.. but she’s full blooded Korean as well. Lisa - was born and raise in Thailand.. she is a a Thai but moved to Korea to become a trainee in YG.. hence, she needs to work hard to lear Korean language

You’re right that BlackPink can profit off any comeback or off any new releases. BUT they are making more off touring, appearances and brand sponsorship. Each member was reported to have earned over 10m US dollars in 2019. Whereas, making an album and video will cost the agency at least a million dollars. YG who has been in major financial difficulties obviously is in need of maximum profit. More touring. More product endorsements and more appearances. That’s why their comebacks are far and few. They’re a victim of their massive success

yeah, its really a survival of the fittest, especially in their agency YG entertainment. All of their artists experienced a very hard training days coz they don't know if their gonna debut or not, especially the boy groups, all of them experienced survival shows before they got to debut, But everyone that survived are really big thing now and that's one of the really good thing with their artists coz with the difficult experience that they had, they really evolve in YG. making them different from other kpop artists.

First came the Beatles to the USA-then BlackPink at Coachella. Both did not realize the impact they had already made before stepping onto the the stage.The K-POP invasion has begun and again history is being made. Thank you for a nice insightful reaction to BlackPinks 'Journey and Friendship'. Entertainment companies in Korea are smart to allow their debuted members access to personal, game show, talk shows and other media outlets . It gives us a closeup and personal glimpse into their lives, and why I think the fan base for them is so big in Asia and the world now. You can not help but feel a personal relationship and grow to love them as you watch these behind the scenes videos into their public and personal lives . I have been saying for a long time that people watch these music videos and do not realize the years of hard work the performers, artist, musicians, singers put in to their careers before debuting . We realize this though videos like Journey and Friendship and insightful reactions such as yours. The K-pop and J-pop industry are both tough and it is hard to understand why they make the decisions they do. As you pointed out quite well it is a business and the welfare of the members themselves are not always first and foremost in the decisions of the ones who manage them. Perhaps a core philosophy of many Asian countries where, 'the good of the whole, out weighs that of the individual' is sometimes hard for westerners' to understand? Western and Eastern both have their stipulations and rules under contract but, the J-Pop and K-pop industry contracts are especially strict. No dating relationships, smoking and Y.G. will not even let them drive ( for safety reasons) a vehicle. Understandably from a business point of view, Korea and Japanese entertainment companies ( especially Korean) have large sums of money invested in their trainees and completely support them while they are under contract with housing, food, allowances as well as training in and out of the studio and provide exercise outlets to keep them in shape for the dance routines. (Lalisa has a kickboxing trainer. Jenny goes to a Gym outside the studio). BlackPink often talk about their dormitories and allowances. Once debuted the expenses multiply and this as example is all paid for by Y.G . You mentioned how few of those actually debut much less how many like BlackPink actually make it to the international stage and is where Y.G. makes back it's money on all these investments. Let me say also, an early departure from a company and breaking contract can be a difficult and costly decision for a trainee and many will have to hire lawyers to negotiate this in an attempt to not incur a large debt in doing so.

Lisa es la única extranjera del grupo ya que es de Tailandia. Las demás son coreanas, Jennie estudió en Nueva Zelanda y Rosé nació en Nueva Zelanda pero creció en Australia. YG es una compañía que se caracteriza por no tener muchos comebacks al año, sus grupos suelen tener uno o quizás dos algunos incluso más tiempo. En una industria como el kpop donde es común que un grupo haga comeback más de dos veces al año los fans piensan que YG no saca mucho. Es una compañía que prefiere sacar calidad a cantidad, lo han dicho muchas veces, no sacan cualquier cosa solo lo que les convence. Yo también pienso que sacan muy poca música para el tiempo que tienen, pero las chicas igual trabajan todo el año, ya sea en giras, comerciales, eventos, etc. Les recomiendo que escuchen a otros grupos de YG, suelen ser reconocidos por su presencia artistica. Creo que ya lo comenté en otro de sus vídeos pero reaccionen a BIGBANG es el primer grupo masculino de YG y son legendas dentro del género, van a estar presentándose en Coachella este año. También chequen a WINNER, iKON, y al grupo femenino ya separado de YG 2NE1 (también legendas del género). Si quieren algo más vocal el dúo de hermanos AKMU vale mucho la pena.

YG wanna milk as much money as they can with the least effort possible. Blinks wanna make YG put as much effort as they possibly can. In the end, the company does not have feelings. They run on money. But fandom is purely driven by human feelings and emotions. And it is a constant battle between the company and the fandom. The saddest thing is, it is the BP who has to endure all of this. They have to calm down their fandom while obeying their contracts. They can not afford their fandom boycotting their company and they cannot afford to lose their fandom.

YG saved themselves blackpink didn't. They can turn ANY 4 girls into BLACKPINK. YG is a genius best promoters,public relations and marketing. When Lisa was getting Racists issues in South Korea what did he do. He puts Lisa in a TV show of her joining the SK military. And everyone is wondering why don't release more songs.All that time to mend that serious issue wasted on .The fact he structured the group to be multilingual models also added them to be ambassadors and models for High Fashion designers. Being an idol is costly they are in a break-even system so all those extra things helps the girls gain more financially. If they keep bringing out music they spend more money more time promoting. The girls make more on the side hustle and everyone wants an excuse to blame the agency promoting skills. How would i know this? Why would YGE copyright LiSa Manoban name and why she would let them. It benefits them both greatest marketing move ever. All YGE artists are molded to be future financially stable unlike what most idols who stuggles after disbanding. Im in america i can turn on the TV and see blackpink. Our music companies and artists are known for drug dealing,pill popping,pimping,prostitution,assaulting and murder. YGe geniuses if you can't understand that your a YG hater and only because it's trending in which makes you a fool. Beyonce is respected by everyone in korea famous or not,everyone. And she married a drug dealer with assualt charges. That is all. Btw
