Sicily '43 Solo Playthrough - Episode 1: The Buildup | Assault Games | World War 2 Tactical Wargame

We play the first turn of our playthrough of Sicily '43, Assault Games' wargame (historical conflict simulation) on World War 2 Tactical (squad level) Combat on the West Front in 1943, between US and German forces. Game is a two-player wargame, but works well solitaire. In this episode, the German and US forces close in on the contested farmstead.

Oh, nice! It very much falls into a "system purchase" when you realize how much stuff is in the (massive) box. I really want to set aside time to play the campaign at some point too. That just seems like it would be an amazing series of scenarios to play.

Finally a playthrough providing an idea of the system in action. TY! Kickstarted this. Glad I did as it really looks interesting. These designers clearly have a passion for gaming. I have Old School Tactical series, Band of Brothers series & Conflict of Heroes for tactical but this seems too good to pass up. A lot of game for the money & an interesting topic.

Hi Zilla. I love the Sicily '43 series you put together, super informative. Episode 1 gets right into the gameplay, I could benefit from an Episode 0 that shows how you set up the board if you'd be willing to do that. Thanks for all you do.

Yep, the action should pick up in the next episode. :) Thanks for the feedback on the music. On the whole the feedback on the music is very positive but I do understand that some people don't like it. This track might not be the best because the volume fluctuates a bit. I have found that if the music does distract you that you can usually lower the overall volume and reach a point where the music is barely audible but my voice is clear.

This game looks really good and a nice playthrough so far, looking forward to seeing what happens when the house is taken and what damage the Tigers can do. A shame there is no solo mode so not a back from me but probably not feasible for a game like this but will certainly be sticking with the videos to see it play out.

I'm really curious to see how it unfolds. Those two German tanks and the anti-tank gun might stop the US dead in their tracks, but the US mortar might be able to drop some smoke to help. I have absolutely no idea if having those two Ranger squads on the Stuarts charge the farmstead is anything close to a good idea. We'll see!

I think @Zillablitz is just proofing that this is playable perfectly solo? I have Red Horizon from the same company and play this solo all of the time.

@@mka446 Yes I think you are absolutely correct you can play this solo with playing both sides and it does look very fun, this is just a me thing and nothing against the game but I can't do solo play against myself. Maybe I should have said 'true solo' instead.

@@garyduddell3224 Be sure for this kind a game it is not a easy thing to generate a well done solo AI. We are working on some ideas - but this will take time. And we prefer to have something good working instead of someting making things more complicated

@@assaultgames167 I couldn't agree more it is an incredibly hard thing to implement and if not done well it can adversely affect a game and is better not to be included. I know most people are comfortable playing solo on both sides it is more a preference for myself. Good luck with the crowdfunding as I really like the system here and in the previous release as well.

Thanks for the video. Interesting so far and the seems fairly typical. Bit of a change with LOS and hindrances versus blocking terrain. I was noticing the German AT gun to the south did not take shots at the American tanks moving up, was he out of range of those tanks?

I think the accumulation of that degrading terrain and distance left me feeling like any shot the ATG would have taken would have been at fairly low odds, but I'm very much still learning the system. Once we pushed them up into the brush they were "moved" and done for the turn. I think having them in the brush will give them some much better shots at the farm if/when the US forces get there.

interesting play, man I envy your laser sight, wish I had one but they seem impossible to find these days, I am still using a old red shoe lace for my line of sight 😊. Look’s like a fun game but I prefer The Last Hundred Yard, remind’s me a lot to ASL but I can’t wait to see what will happen in episode two 😊

I want to explore Last Hundred Yards a bit too. I have Vol 2, read the rules, and decided to hold off until I'd played some other games. (This was a couple of years ago now.) I believe Miniature Market has the Army Painter Target lock Laser Sight in stock as do some other places.

thanks but unfortunately The Army Painter does not ship to my country, they only have USA and England available for shipping. They do have a store on Amazon which would be great but the laser sight is not available there for some weird reason, so I am a bit out of luck. As for EBay I unfortunately do not use it, had some serious issues with them years ago and I just do not trust EBay at all

Id be tempted to replace the counters with 6mm GHQ micro armor. Interesting game but I am thinking about giving The Last Hundred Yards a look at and see if that is the tactical level game for me. I think ASL is a bit too expensive.

I think the only issue with minis would be having enough space to have the markers sit in the hex as well, or if you had close combat or unit transport (2 units/hex). But yeah, I'm sure it could work really well with the right size units. Lots of great game choices to pick from, for sure!

That is very true but 6mm tanks in particular are actually smaller than those counters. It be interesting to try it out. I am waiting for the GMT sale in two weeks. I am eyeing Under the Southern Cross to go with my my Flying Colors 3rd edition deluxe. Eyeing Cataphract and plan to look into The Last Hundred Yards to see if it strikes me. I had given some thought to Seas of Thunder but I am not sure about that one.@@ZillaBlitz

That does sound like it might work very nicely, yes. I like counters but I know a lot of people do enjoy minis. That sounds like some nice choices for the GMT sale!

I am actually a convert from miniature gaming. I have somewhere around 150 6mm tanks and armored cars mostly centered around France 1940. I also want to p500 Banish All Their Fears. I am big into the age of musketry.@@ZillaBlitz

Wow, that's a collection! Sounds like you've got an order list all set. I don't know if there is much I'll be getting this time around. Definitely a couple will make it to the basket though, I'm sure. :)
