Michele! Corleone. This is one of the first episodes of Francis Ford Coppola's famous film The Godfather, shot in Sicily. Actually, Coppola got it wrong. That's not Corleone. It's Motta Camastra. We've decided to call this video "Sicily. In the footsteps of the Godfather." In this town, Forza de Agro, the next episode of The Godfather in Sicily was filmed. Behind me is the Catedral of St Mary's. It's just like in the film. This is roughly how Michael Corleone, in the first part, along with his guards, walked into Vitelli's bar. Michael Corleone and his guards were sitting at this table. The most important, key plots of the entire trilogy were filmed in the famous "Slave Castle". The palace where Michael resides when he's hiding out in Sicily. We were lucky enough to meet the owner of the castle, Baron Franco Platagna. The Baron, kindly, allowed us to film the interior of the castle. He told us about the making of the film, which took place in his presence. He was only 28 years old at the time. He showed us the locations of all the scenes. He let me take pictures, he let me fly a drone. This is the castle where Michael Corleone hid in Sicily after he killed Salozza and McClatchy. It was at this location that the car pulled out when he was on his way to his engagement to Apollonia. This is the church where Michael and Apollonia were married. Further, the wedding procession travelled down from the church into town. Another famous angle in Savoca. This well was built specifically for the making of this film. It's actually a film well. It's not real. This is the balcony that Michael Corleone used when he was travelling with Apollonia to leave this hospitable house. As it was no longer safe here. The place where Apollonia's car was parked. It was, at this gate, that Vito Corleone's mother came in with him to ask Don Cicho not to kill her only son. Vito Andolini is smuggled out of town on a donkey. Vito Corleone and his family arrive at his hometown by train at Corleone station. But it's another Coppola hoax. This, now abandoned, is the station of Staragonia. Corleone has no railway at all. For a long time, this villa was in disrepair. The new owners, whom we've just met, have kindly allowed us to film some scenes here. It is on this terrace that Vito Corleone kills Don Chicho. Don Chicho was sitting about here. Thus avenging the deaths of his mother, father and older brother. Gradually, the villa is restored. Repairs are underway. The grounds have been tidied up. The trees have been trimmed. We hope that soon it will look no worse than the baron's villa. Another episode was filmed at St Mary's Catedral in the second part of The Godfather. Unfortunately, I can't give you the mass of people who were there. Apparently some sort of celebration was being filmed there. Vito was holding little Michael in his arms, there was a priest standing next to him, people with some brooms. Well, there you have it. Look at me. That's right, a cavalcade of Michael Corleone's cars travelled down this road, back to his homeland. Another Coppola joke. The credits say Bagheria. Actually, though, behind me is the temple of Segesta. A motorcade of cars has pulled up to the main entrance of Villa Malfitano, with Michael Corleone and his family. A band is playing, people are waving flags, everyone is very happy for his arrival. He's greeted on the steps by family and friends, partners. And, appropriately enough, the mob. Mary sees off her parents, who have gone for a walk. Another gorgeous angle of Villa Malfitano. This is a farewell photo with the very kind Baron. Acknowledgements. Michael Corleone and Don Tammasino arriving to meet Cardinal Lamberto. A monk with a wheelchair is waiting for them at the entrance, where Lara is now standing and waving at me. That's roughly how Michael Corleone tried to walk through that door in The Godfather Part III. And behind him was his wife. To prove my point that it was true, that this is exactly the right place, it's a trick. Coppola's favourite angle, St Mary's catherdral. Fourth Apparition. An episode of The Godfather Part III in the town of Forza de Agra. Only instead of me there should be a black car, Michael Corleone and his wife. The bicycle ridden by the jolly priest and the photos from the shoot are carefully preserved in Antici Muri's pizzeria in Forza de Agra. And on this road, hitmen on their way to kill Michael Corleone killed Don Tommasino as he passed by. And this is the palace of Don Lucchesi. On the red-carpeted steps of this largest opera house in Italy, the Massimo Opera House in Palermo, the capital of Sicily, the beautiful Mary, daughter of Don Michael Corleone, was murdered. Al Pacino's silent scream, deservedly, is hailed as one of the most powerful and dramatic scenes in the history of cinema. This is the chair where Michael Corleone sat in Part 3 before his death.
