Some additional context that might help - for almost a decade, Ren was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar and other health issues and treated accordingly, only for it to be Lyme disease the entire time (which nobody thought to test for, and doctors completely dismissed his concerns). The song is not so much anti-therapy as it is about how healthcare systems are entirely unconcerned with *actually* finding out what's wrong with patients, and instead just doing whatever is easiest/most profitable. But yes, Ren is a fantastic musician, lyricist and artist. Highly recommend checking out his other stuff!

I’ve definitely had my fair share of doctors with a dismissive attitude, so I could only imagine how terrifying that was for him to go through for so long. Thank you for the info, I’m looking forward to the Ren journey!

Sick Boi is amazing, f*ck it, everything he does is so. Yep, he's independent, but through You Tube / Soc Media inertia, he got to number 1 in the UK charts. He is very grateful to people like you, the reaction community, for building and show casing his art. You alluded to his misdiagnosis, which has shaped a lot of his lyrics. Watching some of his live streams, he is a lovely person. You see that in his The Big Push content, both the busking and other songs (Swansong is their own composition, a masterpiece IMO). His collabs are super dope, you'll love this rabbit hole!

the more you discover about Ren's back story the better you understand his artistry, Ren does not shy away from hard topics or truth, as an independent this is his own work, concept, lyrics, imagery, beats... supported by a few close friends much of his work is shot in a single take... genre bending genius... enjoy the Ren rabbit hole...!

Although he usually does most of it himself. He does use samples in a few of his songs. And this song is produced by kujobeats. He uses his own beat called yaga.

Great reaction, Ren does all kinds of music but two songs I would recommend that are totally different to each other but still feature this subject are 'Seven Sins' and 'Chalk Outlines' which is a duet with Chinchilla, and then you will be introduced to another really amazing artist. The two songs could not be more different even to 'Sick Boi'.

Hopefully, you will check out "Chalk Outlines (live)" with Chinchilla. On the other hand, if you want to check out some of Ren's lighter stuff check out "Losing it" and/or "What you want". Yes, he is completely independent. Chinchilla has fire solo work as well btw

Damn, the music, the birds and the fan at the beginning and end of your video had me ready to meditate. Very cool. Ren is independent. He was signed with I believe Sony for a short time but they released him because he couldn't live up to his contract at the time due to his health. Keep up the incredible reactions!

Thank you so much! The music at the beginning and end is my own music that I used to have up on Soundcloud years ago. I've since removed all my songs because I may want to redo/reimagine them at some point. So I appreciate that! And thank you for the Ren info, I think that is so awesome for him to keep doing what he loves & killing it! Also, I believe you sent me a donation so I just wanted to say I appreciate you incredibly. You didn't have to do that, so thank you for your kindness and consideration!!

@@kevink1057in a way yes. He said in his interview with Justin Hawkins. He signed with Sony but Sony never dropped him. Ren said it was himself that went to the producer and they granted the release as they understand his issues. They parted in good terms - that much so that even let him use the songs that he wrote for Sony (which became freckled angels) but think he realises that being independent has its benefits.
@im2yz4u1711 ай бұрын
Interesting that you mention that transcranial procedure you had done. Ren ultimately was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. He mentions 'stem cell poster boi' in this song. As part of his current therapy he undergoes a similar procedure to try to help his brain reconfigure from nearve damage I believe. There are a couple short videos of his daily treatment that you might find and watch. It starts wtih Ren showing you the total pills he has to take each day and it is scary.

I went to see a new therapist yesterday, and she immediately mentioned anti depressants & that i need to take them at least one year, but she cannot prescribe them... all i saw was the pig 😂 i kid, she was wonderful, but sheesh! Can't we try some DISCUSSION before you throw pills at me? I will continue seeing her, but not feeling the meds! Sick Boi is the title track from his album of the same name. It's got 18 tracks and is lots and lots to unpack. Also, everything but Sick Boi pt. 2 has a video or a lyric video to watch as well. I suspect this track Sick Boi pt. 2 will also get a video of some kind as well soon. But yeah Ren can do everything from storytelling to rapping to crooning to shredding to production to promotion. I've learned alot and somewhat expanded my view of what is possible for an independent artist to accomplish watching Ren work. Am definitely hooked, and am excited to hear his future releases.

@jasonremy162711 ай бұрын
No, that was like 8 years later. Sony didn't break the contact. It was a mutual agreement, and Sony agreed to give Ren all his masters and stems, which they didn't have to do. Most of his first album Freckled Angels was recorded with Sony, and they gave him the rights to release it independently. Ren has nothing but good things to say about Sony and how well they treated him. Power was written about an entertainment management company (not a label) that he had a bad break with. Most of the angry tracks on Sick Boi as well, like Masochist, were written at the same time. But that had nothing to do with Sony.

Having been a therapist for decades, I think the reason for poor therapists are two fold, but they are related. First, the whole diagnosis concept is literally backward from what it takes to understand humam beings. A diagnosis is limiting and we are trained this way: Collect symptoms --> informs diagnosis --> which informs treatment --> which informa goals In the end, the goals become somethimg like this: Member will reduce depressive symptoms by 50% within 6 months as evidenced by Beck Depression Inventory. Do you ever wonder why you feel your therapist doesn't understand you? There you go. Look at how they view you...and your struggles and suffering. People want connection, meaning, purpose, direction and they want to he seen... without having to mortgage their internal sense of self as they have probably already done their while life. Help them to get there, and the little label you slapped in them will disappear. Second, and relatedly, some people just shouldn't be therapists. But they are there because they are told they are helpful (see above). You see, some people are oriented to the sensory reality and can't conceive of a reality that lies purely in the anstract. Yet that's a decent chunk if the population...that is simply not seen for who they are in a therapists office. Furthermore, they tend to gather information on a wide spectrum of a person and want to narrow it down to a single, "solution." It is they,namd business minded people, who developed diagnoses. I should add here that this rype of person is extremely valuable in society snd it isn't a matter or bettter or worse. Except that it is when it comes to therapy because you can damage people. The other type of person is different. They strive to take a single piece of knowledge about a person and through experience and interaction with the person, expand it to near infinite options, or solutions. So instead of narrowing the possible outcomes, you broaden them. And from this you start realize we aren't the exoert here. The client is. They are the experts of themselves. We just need to walk with them in their journey of exploration and development, teaching and helping when we can. We never want to take possibilities away from our clients due to our own, "processes."
