I loved this. Some great set ups that could also work as individual sketches . Some of it seems quite ahead of its time for the era. I’ve recently discovered Sid Field’s comedy and I can see how he influenced so many who came after him. Even the likes of the Carry On films Morecambe and Wise and Python and I noticed the “Ooh you are awful” Dick Emery line during the scene where he dressed in drag!

Love Margaret Lockwood in every movie she is in. The comedy of Sid Field is excellent, reminds me of Abbot and Costello. Fun Film. Thank you. :-)

What an undiscovered gem this film is ; the production values are amazing for a film of this time ; there hadn't been many films set during the english civil war but the costumes ; uniforms of the round head soldiers and the look of the film is excellent and must of cost a fortune to make ; Margaret lockwood is gorgeous and excellent as always ; the only weak link is Sid field he never really had much presence imho ; there isnt much to go by though in fair but compared to other british comics of the day like Will hay for instance he appears to be lacking something but was popular in his day ; hes only serviceable in this film I feel which is a shame ; the film should be released on dvd

Lockwood is a dead ringer of sorts for Rita Hayworth. If Frankie Howerd thought Sid was the greatest that's saying something...to a Frankie Howerd fan!!

Starts out so vicious then gets brutal ! All the while one is supposed to be amused and or entertained !?!? merely did a search for comedy not dark twisted S&M scenarios .... hardly resembles comedy.
