You can power a dozen forges and grind your sausage with that fan. Really excited to see you get that up and cracking. Great anvil, I really envy that.

Love the anvil Matt, wish mine was that nice. That fan was a expensive unit at one time.. Should make a neat blower.👍

I have blower envy for your old cast hand crank unit. They are like rocking horse teeth over here - when they pop up on the used market they go for 3 times what I paid for this side channel blower. The anvil came from the chap I purchased the Hollbrook lathe from in the spring - I passed up on a crate full of hardy hole tooling - kicking myself now I know what they are ! Got me a TIG welder due in sometie this week - so guess I will have little excuse for crappy welding when Ive got to grips with it - cheers for your advice mate. mat

@@lookcreations Not a problem Matt, hope you got the foot pedal. Love TIG welding, it's really pretty easy once you get some time behind the welding mask. Got that cast hand crank blower given to me by a friend at work.. I was glad to get it.👍

Given 😃 Had to put the pedal on hold until funds are available so will get it next month with a few other bits n bobs. I went for the best welder I could afford and could build on down the line as I improve. It’s due here in the next hour !

Looks like your set for some fun. Best wishes with it. I like a smaller blower with speed control.

Am thinking variable pedal power 😃. The larger fan diameter should reduce the gearing required.

Hi Emma - Ive since found they made cars & motor bikes turn of the last century ! There are some lovely cast iron forges knocking about still in the UK - bet they weigh over a tonne !

Are you sure you are using the right end of the motor Matt ? The fan on the other end looks suitably more modest 😁😂😆

Hi Matt, the pointy end is called the bick.
@lookcreations
@lookcreations 6 жыл бұрын
it is, but also the beak, horn and as I prefer -'the pointy end' - I know it as the bick, (from the county where I grew up & here in Derbyshire UK) . Thanks for stopping by Graham. All the best Mat

@@bayupurwantara7564 I dont Im sorry, by your description, something has either failed / worn (bearing or shaft) or gone through the fan causing the damage. My blower came appart easy enough and you can check for 'spin' as you put parts togther. It pretty much self aligns. Mat

Frankly, your blower is way over the top! Surely something more modest would do the job? All the best, Matthew

You may well be on to something. From what I can guestimate the 8" dia hand cranked units run at 1:48 gearing. 4 air paddles and folk crank them around 30 rpm. So my 16" 48 paddle fan shouldnt require gearing much at all :-) Going to be fun finding out though. I just have to rig up a new end shaft support in place of the motor and sort the busted bearing - then have a crank at it and see. If it is way over the top for air flow (which is most likely), I shall duct a portion to a flue pipe to help over the forge ... maybe but thats just adding work. Hope to see you again on the comments - all the best Mat

Hi Mat, I'm a big fan of hand cranked forges, I was wondering whether you'd thought about putting a hand crank straight on the shaft to see what it does! The great thing about hand cranking, is that it stops when you forge, less noise and less coal consumption! Cheers Matthew.

Hi Matthew, I am doing just that - well actually having a brew before I go back to the shop and machine the bearing plate after which I fit the crank handle to see how much air it will shift. If it needs a higher rpm than I want to hand crank I may set it up as a foot treadle and some gearing. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I hope to have an update later this week.
