I have to say during BJJ training you can figure out many moves by yourself, but this? this is pure magic
@robbie315808 жыл бұрын
I've been having a lot of success with this lately. You can also hit a triangle or armbar on the guy if he keeps trying to pressure into you.

People who are trying to learn this escape should also look up Saulo Ribiero's Running Escape. These are both good variations of the same escape. But in this video, the opponent already has the arm over, where as in Saulo's video he shows how to prevent the arm/leg from going over and his video goes into a lot of in depth detail about defense. Also other variations are the video rolls over, Saulo's rolls under to recover guard. You should practice both, do the one you like. /watch?v=EIXVvpBUMR0

Haven't trained BJJ in four years or so, but I used to hate escaping side control because I was only 140lbs.. Especially against guys 200lbs+.

canadas a big place man haha.. i had to try several gyms to find one that works. also if there is no good bjj gyms around try a judo club, all these techniques work in judo except the rules are a little different.

When would you want to try to go into this turning away position versus doing a hip escape, turning towards them and getting your knee inside? Saulo Ribeiro says to do it when the opponent is controlling only the side of the body that is near the opponent because the opponents body is stopping you from turning into them. But in this video, the opponent is controlling Marcelo's far hip and not the near hip, so why choose turning away instead of turning in and getting your knee between you and the opponent? Just trying to understand the rationale so I can try to incorporate MG's teaching in my game.
@yangtroy18 жыл бұрын
I'd think this is more of a immediate counter to a guard pass compared to when the guy is already kinda settled on you and your trying to wedge in your knee for the hip escape
@seanneuman5238 жыл бұрын
+Troy Yang I appreciate your reply and trying to help me with my question. I'm still a bit confused however. In the case of having an immediate counter to a guard pass, in my imagination I see the hip escape-to-bottom knee in being just as immediate of a counter as MG's turning away method because they can both be performed relatively quickly with the all the space that's available immediately following a guard pass attempt. Can you explain more on why you see MG's turning away technique as being more useful as an immediate counter?
@HamChuc7 жыл бұрын
Use it in the transition when the guy is trying to get to your side and you can sense that you are beat. If you are caught on your back and pressure is applied then you might have to go to one of the other escapes.

It feels awkward to me to turn away from someone when I'm on bottom of side control. I'll start drilling this and see how it goes.

This technique I can tell will suck for beginners they will just give up their back. And it isn't even a side control escape, more like an escape to someone almost taking your back.

this doesn't seem like it would work at all . .if the defense of guy had any pressure on him marcelo wouldnt be able to get up on his shoulder . .and not to mention that same pressure would prevent the def guy from going between the legs! . .

This works at all level, with white or blue belt you can usually catch a triangle out of it. Check out MG rolling with black belts and high level MMA guys, he uses this all the time. Keep practicing.

Joe Vance move works great even with heavy top pressure....getting to your roll away side is never difficult especially when conventional wisdom says " don't roll away you will give up your back " ....this escape must be executed in a brisk fashion....but it absolutely does work. It feels wrong when you are doing
