Megan absolutely hits the nail on the head with Jeremy. It's great television, but imagine him in real life. Anyone with even a modicum of morality would absolutely hate his guts. He's the kind of person where it's absolutely justified to be as unkind and insulting as humanly possible to him.

It’s true. Actually, all characters are despicable in their own way. Hans is a narcissist. Mark is delusional, lost yet arrogant. Sophie’s a selfish attention seeker. Darrel is racist. Jeff’s driven by a desire to piss off Mark. Johnson is a delusional, arrogant bully who’s controlling in relationships and judgmental at work. Elena is a user. Zehra is a user who seeks to be an intellectual but is too dumb to see Jeremy for what he is. Big Suze thinks she’s all that but actually isn’t very nice and quite like having Jeremy after her. Toni is toxic in every way. Nancy is a controlling attention seeker with a bit of racism thrown in. Gerrard is annoying, childish and self depreciative but not all bad. Gail is quite likeable and a victim but an object of hate and resentment for Jez and she is a bit arrogant with an unjustified sense of superiority. April is a bit lost but not too bad and her husband is a sanctimonious cheat. Dobby is likeable but needs someone normal and stabile, which she gets but it turns out her new man, Simon, is everything that’s wrong with his generation. Mark’s sister Sarah is just wrong in every way and her kid is spoilt. Megan and Joe are both cheaters. Big Mad Andy is a cowboy builder. Gog is resentful but somewhat understandably so. Jerry is annoying and judgemental. Ben isn’t too bad but looked down on by Zehra, he’s got what Jez wants but is too incompetent, unreliable and fickle to gain. Ben isn’t actually that nice, only in contrast to Jez. Ceilia the life coach is a judgmental masochist. Merry is mental. The Orgazoid is a predator, a creep but a bit sad. Barbara from HR is racist, apparently. That said, love this show and can’t get enough!

If you write a genuinely nice character, you can't let anything bad happen to them for very long. And if other characters treat this good person as they treat each other, it makes them seem twice as horrible and harder to relate to. Anyway, I know I'm a shithead and, unfortunately, I dont have the energy to consider anyone else
