If I were to do my car, the joins will be spaced apart so that even when they are exposed, they don't touch. I prefer proper crimped connectors - check all over your car's wiring. There is a reason why the manufacturers choose this method. Solder cannot withstand vibration. Twists usually cannot take the load. I once dismantled the radiator fan motor at the open-air car park of 1Utama. I replaced the carbon bushes the other day but did not file the bigger bush enough so it jammed and failed to reach the commutator.
