For real, stage design in Side Order is HORRID. I will say this: I'm glad Marina isn't the villain, because they did kinda discuss how Marina and Pearl were fine with either side winning at the end of final feat, but it is a CRIME that they didn't make ORDER the internal fears of Agent 8. I mean come on: 8 having slight amnesia again, the Overlorder having the Octo Expansion style 8 Balls as eyes (a known fear of 8). Could have easily been the fear of not being "8" anymore after they recover their memories, losing the stability of their new life fearing their new friends wouldnt like who they were before they lost their memories, throwing their "past/Memcake" self out of the tower, and locking their pallet in the final locker to prevent Eight from fully remembering, even after clearing it once. THEY EVEN HINT AT IT BUT BACKPEDAL HHHHHHHH

Such a great story was right there and Nintendo just decided to not take it. This is why I said it feels more like a spinoff, they have no continuity with the rest of the story

I personally enjoyed it. But I wish there was more variety In levels and bosses. Imagine how cool it would be to face some order version of the person on the pallete your trying to complete as the final boss. Only getting to overlorder during Eights pallete. I also think they should’ve been more specific in the lore. For example stuff about Eight seemed to be hinted at but not proven. DONT get me started on agent four. They were definitely set up to have a more major role but it seems they scrapped the idea and forgot to fix it. Lots of lore they seemed to have forgotten to fix

I think the story was lacking but for different reasons. I personally dont think marina needed to be the main villain, maybe she should have been like a second to last boss sort of thing. I think bringing her back so soon is such a weird choice in the writing. I can kinda see why from the viewpoint of more elevator dialouge, but I feel like that she should have been unlocked in the elevator after your first full run, not just the tutorial run. Which by the way, 90% of all the elevator dialouge just feels like splash texts. There is very little in the conversations that actually builds on the story. Its just pearl and marina glazing each other for 30 floors. I really like pearlina, but it feels like nintendo was actively shoving it down our throats for brownie points. Im sure they are aware at this point how much of the community is LGBTQIA+, and it really felt like the equivalent of pride month where they slapped a rainbow sticker on the DLC to get the gay people to go crazy for it. (Which by the way, before anyone comes after me, I litterally am gay and its absurd that I even need to clarify because this should honestly be a critique that *anyone* should be allowed to make but-) Like you can just tell how forced pearlina is by the way they talk to each other. Idk if nintendo devs have ever seen a real life romantic relationship before, but like people do not do these corny a$$ lines. The other thing that infuriates me is that the story is even told through the lens of marina to begin with, AND THEY BARELY CAPITALIZE ON IT. Litterally all you get for lore is her dev diary, which doesnt explain much more than what the commuity could have figured out themself! There is like 0 enviornmental story telling except for everything being monochrome (barely counts it was litterally a freebie) and that one stage backround with the mem cake factory. Again looping to the start, almost all of marinas (useful) story telling is told through the dev diary, so genuinely what was the point of unlocking her as an elavator charecter so early?? Which by the way the story itself is liks…. Its just….. like- There is very little complexity to it, it just feels like they slapped it together as something fun to read alongside the “good” gameplay they spent all their real time on. Which doesnt even make sense when you consider the gameplay itself is kinda lacking too (which is an opinion for sure, but as a rougelike fan I personally dont fw it. The way the handle “replayability” just wasnt fun for me sorry) The story should have been told in the eyes of 8 in some way, maybe something about whether or not they would choose to live in a world of order themselves after going through the chaos of the deepsea metro. It honestly canonically would make 100x more sense for 8 to be the villain more than marina anyways, because what makes 8 so morally unquestionable??? 8 has struggled through things (probably) worse than marina. There is totally a statement that could be made about how Marina, Acht, and 8 are all parellels of each other who cope in different ways, and they dont make any commentary about that at all.

Personally, I think the corny lines are fine, but they needed more actual stuff to back it up. Its not them shoving it down our throats, its them only doing the easy stuff.

I love the premise, trying new builds and beating my scores. I wish I could do more floors and make it even harder because I'm a hardcore Hades fan. I love pearlina being canon and yall Acht going by they/them isn't splatoon going woke acht had their soul ripped from them and their body blended and just gained consciousness recently. Overall I just wish it was bigger along with even more plot.

I agree with a lot of your points, but there’s one thing I don’t get. Marina’s character development was crystal clear to me. But a lot of people think that if a character changes their mind about something or backtracks on their previous words, it equates to regression or no development at all. Marina’s dream for saving sanitized octolings is still a thing, but she comes to realize that the Order AI just isn’t the way to go about it.

My point was that marina deciding to create the world of order herself would have been a perfect plot twist. Picture this: Marina is so mad she lost the splatfest that she created this world and is trapping people in it. Pearl and 8 are not only saving the minds of the sanitized octolings but also trying to reason with Marina. The game ends with a bossfight against Marina in which Pearl plays ebb & flow and makes her remember her past and decide to stop fighting, like marie and callie at the end of splat 2. In conclusion, order is just there to fuck up perlina

@@ignacio391 That isn't Marina's personality though. How would she be any different than DJ? Marina is not the type of person to get pissy because she lost. It wouldn't make sense because she is just back tracking toward the Octoling Path again. Now if Pearl has lost, then I can see that twist playing out. But it just doesn't make sense for Marina.

Didnt even have to watch the whole video i agree so much like the story writing is SO BAD it had so much potential, and marina should have had a way better role, as well as agent 4. Actually in general, we should have a better finale to the whole series since its (most likely) the last time we see the Squidbeak Splatoon. FO DOMETHING WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS PLEASEEEEEEE AUUUSGAGHAGAHAGAFH I need better lore, order had more potential, not just "Im ORDER ITSELF 🤓☝" I was so disappointed with Achts portrayal also WHY ARE THEY WHITEEEEEE???????????? 😭😭😭😭😭😭 (im serious when i say i was so disappointed seeing the last marina logs, some of it counters the lore we already have of acht 💔💔💔 and i wish they were dark skinned or tan 😞) anyway im rewriting side order as a project. My idea is kinda like majoras mask where its just a timeloop and it has all the agents in it! uhhh idk how to explain it
