I think it should be like radar modules that can close and extend while in battle. This would actually give the sideskirts a reason to exist since you could make your tank smaller (sideskirts up) to fit into some alley or smth. that would be way better idk why it isnt like that already.

@@Ascariedeus Slightly, but you know, barrels are thin and barely visible, think of the AA radars, those get folding animations so we sort of have higher "standards" for non-repair visual changes.

Having played vfw quite a lot i'd say skirts out are big debuff to mobility ( most maps are made slightly too tight to fit in tighter passages). As others sugested having skirts as dynamic model ( switch during battle while beeing immobilised like during crew replenishment ) would make it really usefull. Making passing through choke points possible at cost of temporary immobilisation and reload debuff (gun traverse limit i think is obvious and is fair)

Having a dynamic collision model is asking too much for gaijin cause sweeping your wings in any variable wing sweep plane wont affect your collision box in any way

The Pg 02 japanese premium boat has an "upgrade" that takes its main gun from 3000 RPM to 450 RPM. I believe this was meant as a nerf without a nerf, because the PG 02 was way too good (consistent 10 kill matches) but they couldn't think of any realistic reason to nerf it, so they used the modification to give it an "alternate" fire mode. If you take the modification off, you still get the OP boat. (I can't remember if its 3000 or 5000 or 6000 rpm...)

Because in real life, VFW is AA vehicle and the skirt, when unfurled is intended to be used as a platform for crew to work on (reloading, etc.). Having the skirt up means less working space, so I guess the increased reload is sensible (muh 'realism'). They're never intended to be operated with skirt up, the skirt is supposed to be up while travelling and unfurled once they reach suitable position to be deployed as AA emplacement
