Simon asking about the Butcher was just due to the class difference between him and Ethan during their youths. Ethan was spot on how it usually is when you go to the local markets rather than a supermarket. Auction? Lol no, that’s just marketspeak. It’s like that in every country. When you have thousands of people passing by dozens of stalls, you learn to speak like that. Simon likely is used to an upmarket butcher shop where you just enter and buy your meat at a fixed rate without even really talking to the butcher, rather than go searching around for deals of the day. Upmarket places don’t need to remember prices and announce them constantly because they have a steady stream of customers that will come and buy at a standard rate. It’s not that easy in local markets; you are constantly fighting with other stalls and need to remember and update your prices on the fly in order to keep up with competition.
