An oligarchy's goal is to maintain the status-co, leading to governance paralysis - the Stasis - and eventually strife. Out of the upheaval a tyrant emerges to purge the institutions. Tyrant wasn't always a dirty word, as the tyrant needed the support of the common people against oligarchs. When the tyrant's grip on power slipped, people rose up to put democracy in place and the cycle continued. Mussolini made it so that you either had to either become part of the state or perish. But once he was dead, they were free to go back to their old ways without fear of being hunted down. The local king retained his kingship, and the emperor became king of kings.

But what the narrator fails to mention is the reason why that was is because when Patton re took Sicily, the Americans placed in power whom they thought were political prisoners, when in reality they were don bosses. So really, it’s mostly America’s fault. They also fail to mention that Mussolini reinvigorated the economy throughout most of Italy, and brought a strong foundation to their society... all be it as it may at the cost of freedom of ideas, expression, freedom of press, speech, and then later brought the country to ruin through a failed war.

Although it's true that Mori surrounded Gangi he didn't slaughter any cattle or kidnap any women or children (what use would he have for these tactics anyway). he simply used the soldiers to go door to door and arrest the Mafia members (he used army tactics as the Mafia were essentially an army at that point). He also didn't Assasinate any Mafia members,the only member killed were the ones that tried to attack him or his forces (during arrest or otherwise). Finally his methods were largely ineffective in the long run for 2 reasons: 1 he wasn't allowed to arrest a lot of the high level Mafiosos as they were affiliated with the Fascist regime (in fact that was the reason he was selfed) and 2: the US freed or transported back most of the Mafia members after the invasion of Sicily and even gave them support and high ranking position in exchange for helping the US maintain the population under control

My maternal great-granduncle is Joseph Anthony Colombo, who strongarmed Paramount and Coppola into changes to "The Godfather" so that the films didn't make La Cosa Nostra look too bad, and who partially influenced Brando's portrayal of Vito Corleone. The mob in the States was a rough crowd, and back in Italy they were even worse. Mussolini crushing them was based, regardless of anyone's opinion.

How was Mussolini one of the "worst dictators in history"? If anything he was one of the most tolerant and respectful. The Allies made diplomacy impossible.
@pdruiz2005 Жыл бұрын
At 0:59. That makes sense. Before the chaos of Italian unification starting in 1815, the southern parts of Italy had been ruled by the iron hand of absolute monarchies, first Spanish, then Austrian and then Spanish again. But when Napoleon invaded Italy and placed one of his marshals on the throne of Naples and Sicily, all hell broke loose. It was hard to rein in the chaos for the reinstated Bourbon kings after 1815. And that's how the mafia was born.

Mussolini a great man who loved his country. Italy was ignored by the Versailles treaty despite sacrificing thousands of lives on the side of the allies. With no natural resources he wanted more land as the other powers had. He invaded Abyssinia was sanctioned by the league of nations, hypocrisy springs to mind. As Europe drifted towards war again he was fearful of Germany but the allies pushed him into the arms of Hitler, who he personally couldn't stand. Neither can he be accused of antisemitism his longest standing affair was with a Jewish woman and he said before the war that Jews had been in Italy for hundreds of years and were as Italian as the Italians. He refused to send Italian jews to Germany unlike for example France. He subdued the Mafia the people slept safer in their beds until the good ol' USA put them back into power when they invaded. Mussolini murdered by the left in their normal killing lust the west subsequently conquered by their woke liberalism who as victors set themselves up as judge the vanquished the accused.

Hitler: go concentration camp Mussolini: drink castor oil Fun fact about Mussolini: is that instead of sending the gays to a tragic end into concentration camps like Hitler he sent them all to a beautiful island in the Mediterranean sea where they could do as they pleased as long as they remained there. When after the war the island residents were brought back the members of the gay community that existed where crying at the idea of having to leave the only place they could openly be themselves and where they were allowed to dress as they pleased, have open relationships and were everyone simply expected anyone them to be gay. One of the people sent to the island wrote that his happiest days were preparing welcome parties for when the ship brought new people to the island, wondering if they were going to get a new singer or someone handsome and while at the beginning the place was quite spartan by the time they left they had theaters, music areas and their own farms and made that island their home.
