May I suggest, and again this is just a suggestion, using the cape to hide the position of your blade from your opponent.

How much safer do you feel when holding the rapier compared to the sidesword?

Depends on the situation, on the distance, and the weapon combination. But sidesword Is anyway my main weapon so i feel more confortable with that

Well Jonathan has already answered you, but that's an interesting question that I (Marco) haven't considered. In a sense I feel less safe with a rapier because I'm less used to it and, if the opponent knows how to handle it well, it is a weapon that can deliver some nasty quick stabs

Thank you both for replying! Rapiers always look safer because of how much more range they have, but it's good to hear from you guys.
