Hari Singh Nalwa (1791-1837) was Commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj, the army of the Sikh Empire. He is known for his role in the conquests of Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshawar and Jamrud. Hari Singh got the 'Nalwa' title attached to his name after he reportedly killed a tiger at a very young age. He was also called 'Bagh Maar' (killer of tiger) for the same reason. Hari Singh Nalwa's performance as an administrator and a military commander in the North West Frontier remains unmatched. Two centuries on, Britain, Pakistan, Russia and America have been unsuccessful in effecting law and order in this region. Hari Singh Nalwa's spectacular achievements exemplified the tradition established by Guru Gobind Singh such that he came to be hailed as the "Champion of the Khalsa".

This song is about Hari Singh Nalwa, Commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj. And yes, you were right Hari Singh Nalwa was the one who fought and opened a tigers mouth with his bare hands. He wasn’t promoting violence, it’s more about brining peace and harmony to places that were not doing well never about taking over someone’s home and stealing their resources.

The killing of the Tiger was an interesting one. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was on a expedition when a tiger came into their path. The maharaja drew his sword and dismounted to take on the tiger but Hari Singh reminded the Maharaja that the task was his as the Bodyguard. During the encounter Hari Singh lost his sword and thus took on and defeated the tiger with his bare hands earnings him his famous title.

Standing at 7 feet tall training martial arts at very young age . He was beating grown men in wrestling when he was just 11 in wrestling matches held by Maharaja Ranjit Singh . Could stay on horse for 2 days straight without getting off . Entire army’s retreated because they knew he was joining the fight . You may not know the fact . One day Hari Singh Nalwa was walking in the jungle with the sikh emperor maharaja Ranjit singh . Suddenly a tiger appeared in front of them . The emperor got out off the horse and got ready to kill the lion but that general stopped him and asked that he wanted to fight the tiger . The general Hari Singh nalwa took his sword out to kill the tiger but the sword slipped out of his hands but what he did there was a surprise . When the lion moved forward , he torn apart the tiger's mouth stretching wide with his both hands and killed him without any weapon. This has been a historically proven incident in 19 th century around starting 1800's.
