I remember, in some interview of the past, Sanjay Gupta getting irritated with the media griping about him (Sanjay) copying from other films. His response was honest and brutal :"If Coppolla or Spielberg copies Kurosawa, everybody says, "He's paying a 'hommage' to the great Japanese filmmaker. But if I copy from some film I want to remake, it's 'copying'!"

the difference is Spielberg and Coppolla homaged Kurosawa but also made innovative and groundbreaking stuff. meanwhile Sanjay Gupta's entire career is just build on the plagiarism of Quentin Tarantino and John Woo, and so many other hollywood films which were flopped at the box office or obscure. he thought if he copies from flops movies, nobody will notice it 💀. like Kaante is just such a obvious scene to scene remake of Reservoir Dogs, but he has never admit that, even tho Quentin Tarantino himself is so humble that he said he liked Kaante and preferred it over his own movie. mtlb banda ek toh copy karta hai uper se saale ka pride bhi alag se hai

Kaante is more of a re-imagining of Reservoir dogs, which Tarantino also liked and praised. There is a huge difference between Remake and copy. Agar Gupta scene to scene, frame to frame and dialogues to dialogue exact banaye film banata tab woh Copy kehlata hai. Kaante is a Classic, Shootout films are classic. Great interview Siddharth. Although most of his films are more of style than substance, I have always liked Sanjay's brand of movie making. Kaabil, I hated the trailers but was pleasantly surprised and was thoroughly entertained when I watched it in theatre after it's release. Haan, sabse zyada credit should go to Hrithik for his phenomenonal performance but yes for one of my all time favourites Kaante, it got to be Gupta who needs to be revered to the hilt for his vision. Sanjay Dutt never looked so dishy as he looked in Kaante. Even Tarantino acknowledged that among all the remakes or adaptations (whatever we call it) of his cult Reservoir Dogs, Kaante is his most favourite. That film is still criminally underrated.
