Sidra Medical and Research Center: Diabetes in Qatar: Excellent Care, New Research

Sidra Medical and Research Center is an ultramodern, all-digital academic medical center which will set new standards in patient care for women and children in Qatar, the Gulf region and internationally. Sidra Medical and Research Center will be a beacon of learning, discovery and exceptional care, ranked among the top academic medical centers in the world.
Sidra represents the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser who serves as its Chairperson. The high-tech facility will not only provide world-class patient care but will also help build Qatar’s scientific expertise and resources.
Qatar has a very high number of children with diabetes mellitus and the reasons for this are unclear. In the endocrinology division we are planning a 3 year project focussed on understand the biochemical and genetic basis of diabetes in every child in Qatar.
We will be collaborating with key scientists here in Sidra with access to all the latest research facilities (genomics, metabolomics and proteomics). At the end of this research proposal we will know the biochemical and genetic landscape of diabetes in every child in Qatar.
