The Tour de Corse - Rallye de France is a rally first held in 1956 on the island of Corsica. It was part of the World Rally Championship from the inaugural 1973 season until 2008. The name "Tour de Corse" refers to the fact that in the early days it was run around the island; nowadays it only features roads around Ajaccio. The rally is held on asphalt roads, and it is known as the "Ten Thousand Turns Rally" because of the twisty mountain roads.

well ,in Portugal it was excluded from the european rallye championship because in 2 years one after the other people on a mountain road used to put them selves in the midle of the road to see the car flying only in the last second they run before the car toutched the ground ,so dozens of people were run over by cars that couldn´t avoid them, lot´s of them died and the next year the portuguese league promissed that they would increase the safety for the people and cars but a 205 smashed lot´s of people against a tree and you can see in the footage people flying through the air, again 4 or 5 people died and the driver was in a shock state and get traumatised by the violence of what he experienced, so no more rallye championship in Portugal, i went 2 or 3 times watch the rallye in a mountain section and i was amazed how that didn´t happen several times more ,i remenber seeing the car jumping and before it toutched the ground people just vanish fast but always in the midle of the road to see the car from underneath and take photos ,try to find here on youtube that maybe there is footage of that happening, regards

Does anyone remember the Top Gear special "Apocalypse Clarkson"? This car was featured in it and it had Jeremy Clarkson at the wheel of this machine, and from the way he was driving it, it seemed like he had absolutely no idea what he was doing! I don't think he even knew how to blip the throttle properly, and it sounded like he was making the engine work a lot harder than it needed to!

anyone else notice that there are hundreds of spectators out to watch what are basically modified production cars? but only a fraction go to watch today's purpose built wrc rubbish? strange that, they swap a thriving set of regulations which several manufacturers are working with to some regulations which struggle, within a decade, mitsubishi is gone, subaru is gone, Toyota is gone, all with a long and illustrious history in the world championship. one he'll of a coincidence that Peugeot quit after only a few seasons and they won it twice. they had a good history in loose surface motorsport too. and the TV coverage is rubbish now as a result, further amplifying the issue.

It's very sad to see these sports we know and love degenerate into this niche factor. I do feel more effort needs to be out in to make these sports like rallying more public friendly. I do like modern WRC cars, and it's good to see the competition now has 4 manufacturers, as opposed to 2 in 2010, and Toyota will be returning to the fray in 2017 with their Yaris. As you point out, TV coverage overall is poor (BT Sport's coverage is okay) and it doesn't attract even hardcore fans out there. Rallying is so expensive though, let's face it. It must be a nightmare to even survive a full rally.

What is the difference's between Escort RS Cosworth 1992-1996 and Escort WRC 1997- ? Because in the end of the 1996 Ford show their new car and is Ford Escort WRC not RS Cosworth?

TheMilenkata the wrc was based on the rs cosworth group a car but had a more effective rear wing, different front bumper and front wheel arches to make room for more suspension travel, the rules for wrc spec cars didn't require homologation cars like the cosworth road car. the wrc also used active diffs (don't think the group a cars were allowed to). the wrc had less power but the power/torque was more widely available throughout the rev range as it wasn't so restricted by the road cars equipment. the wrc car also had bigger brakes when in tarmac spec as they used larger wheels than the group a cars. the escort wrc is basically a tweaked group a car, not like the subaru impreza which was re designed for the new regulations.
