You can sweep by holding down + forward and pressing heavy.

This is an awesome breakdown, I honestly couldn't quite wrap my head around what Modern controls were trying to do.

I'm glad you found it helpful! I got kinda tired of nobody covering the subject so I felt like I had to make my own.

NOTE: I forgot to talk about it here because it's so basic, but you grab by pressing LIGHT+MEDIUM attacks together. Naturally, you can also set a macro for it.

Level 3 1 button super on reaction from blocking seems nuts
@siegarettes

it is, but street fighter's input buffer is so lenient these days it's not too much harder to buffer the input and let it rip on block and if you're opponent is any good they might still have you in a blockstring that'll make you consider WHEN you gotta use so that you don't waste resources and die so mostly it just kinda makes you more consistent at something you'd already do
@macclubbin

i thought it was going to be simplified inputs, not removing access to moves and movesets entirely and nerfing damage! that is surprising and frankly a little disappointing. I was hoping the "modern" control scheme as the name implies would be more of an accessibility feature that still allowed the player to compete at the same level as someone on stick. good breakdown and analysis!

thank you. And yeah I'm kinda bummed they were so conservative with it cuz it's a great idea but so much is left to the table and it feels like they took no cues from anyone else

If I had any real beef with this control scheme, it's with the name. Everything else I'm cool with. It would've made more sense to call it "Simple" or "Training" or something like that.
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
I think they were kinda trying to present it as a real alternative. using easy or simple naming schemes makes it sound like it's not really how you're supposed to play, and makes people dismiss it off hand

I think its very good for beginners or a party game atmosphere with friends. I'm a casual fighting game player but even I don't want my options limited.

What a great breakdown. Although I use classic controls on a stick this is great for my semi casual friends on family who love fighting games but haven’t got the time to sink hours into fighting games.

I've been looking for someone to do a deep dive into the Modern control scheme, and it definitely makes sense what Capcom was doing here. It's full-on training wheels for anyone new to fighting games that is looking for an easier way to get into them, just like how the old Vs. games used to work with the Easy control types.
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
yeah. I wish they'd gone further tho because there are def ways they could have made this into a full on viable alternative instead it's def better than the vs Easy mode at least, which taught you nothing about how to play

Street fighter needs to drop the six button setup anyway. That control scheme was designed for arcade sticks. That era is gone. The new games should be made with a control pad in mind instead now. Modern control is a great start, but more Modern changes are needed

I kinda think it's fine? I do appreciate the more controller friendly approach, and I'd like them to change more, but I think it's good for there to be a variety of button layouts. plus if you've played a modern 4 button game so many of them end up making every combination of button a new function that they might as well be 8 button games.
@YMan-zo5kg

I think the biggest issue is there shouldn’t be any damage scaling. Outside of that, an important thing you are missing is that the assist buttons can actually special cancel or drive rush cancel outside of the auto combos. So you actually have 9 out 12 normals. And ryu specifically has access to all specials, just not every version of each special.
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
yeah I def think if you straight up removed the scaling you've got more than enough to play competitively, if not at the highest level
@R_C32
@R_C32 Жыл бұрын
Have you seen opinions on the modern layout from pros since releasing the vid? A lot of pros are actually scared they might need to transfer over to modern, since it gives you different option selects that you otherwise don’t have on classic, as well as frame 1 reversal supers, which is very strong vs DR and DI, which the game basically seems to be focused around.
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
Id be surprised if any actually do considering the damage nerf and how good their execution is compared to basically anyone else who'd be targeted by modern controls. plus a lot of them complained that SFV was super unexpressive in terms of combos and such, so i can't imagine them willingly losing options if they're playing every day. I also tend to think people who are already good at the game tend to immediately have very conservative knee jerk reactions, hah. I've played a lot of fighting games to see people complain about mechanics, only for everyone to quickly catch onto the tricks in real games. in either case everyone (including me) is just doing day - 1 speculation so only time will tell

Level 1 supers in modern controls will be very powerful.
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
I kinda imagine they'll be good, but it might be more situational, considering the damage hit and the way you lock yourself out of higher damaging combos/supers by using them

I feep like they should tey and fix up modern cus tou cand do sertent atuff like back heavy and raw specials stuff like that cus for characters that completely took out some of their moves to do in modern but in classic you can do them

Do the modern controls make it easier to play with the stick on PS/Xbox controllers or is the D-pad still the best method?
@siegarettes
@siegarettes Жыл бұрын
they require less precision so in that way they do help, but it still only registers 8 digital directions so it's still preferable to play with a dpad for clean directional input and the shorter travel it has compared to an analog stick

oh yeah there's just some moves you might not be able to do at all. but do look at the moves list, since they have some normals on combinations of directions and buttons.

I think there deffo should be downsides to it... I am all for bringing in new players but higher level players can just exploit the crap out of the one button specials / supers... Justin Wong has already shown its potential...

I mean the downsides are missing half your moveset lol and yeah of course Justin Wong is gonna do well he's like a top 1% player I don't think the problem is the controls there
@damiancarr168

Other games with 1 button specials like Fantasy Strike and Granblue Fantasy Vesus have pretty clearly shown there isn't anything OP about 1 button specials. Any top player can input a special in well under a frame so you are talking about every 3rd time they do a special they are 1 frame slower then a 1 button input. You cant DP while holding back so you don't even get special stuff like blocking while DPing.

@@damiancarr168 Its going to affect more low to mid level play I guess... I am wondering if you can SPD with one button press... that would be pretty crazy

@@siegarettes Modern allows to confirm or OS into Supers in a way which is next to impossible on classic controls. This _might_ actually justify the additional damage scaling and fewer normals.
