This video is part 1 of a series on the Siege of Carillon in 1759 during the French and Indian War. The siege was a major victory for the British forces, who captured the French fort at Carillon (now Ticonderoga). This #TradesTuesday video features a look at siege warfare during the #FrenchandIndianWar. When the British landed at Ticonderoga in 1759, after skirmishing with French troops, they set to work building artillery batteries while the French opened fire with everything they had.
In 1758, Aide de Camp Louis Antoine de Bougainville wrote “Now War is established on the European basis. Projects for the campaign, for armies, for artillery, for sieges, for battles. It no longer is a matter of making a raid, but of conquering or being conquered.”
