Thank for visiting Cambodia. Love your channel. Like many others, I was born into the war raised during it. As you can imagine the horror we had to see as a child. For the first 14 years of my life. the memories still lives on. At that time the whole country was in a complete darkness. Seeing your show how people are interacting with one another buying and selling. such a total difference world. Not the country I was once knew. My hope and dreams, is that one day I would be able to go back and live there without fear from the past.🙏

The movie “Killing Fields” showed the world about the terror the Khmer Rouge let the people of Cambodia suffer. It is a thing of the past now, but bad memories is still in the mind of the survivors. 🙏🏼😢

A funny story, I went to Siem Reap in 2002 and it was a sleepy village in the jungle. I got in by bus from Bangkok late at night so I found a guesthouse, down an alley behind a school. There was a Citgo gas station opposite where I bought water and cigarettes. A year later I was back at my job, cutting trees down in Pennsylvania, and on one job the homeowner wanted to talk to me. He was very proud because he had travelled. He told me that he had built a Citgo gas station in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Before I could stop myself I said, "Not the one on Charles De Gaulle Road, opposite the school?" I have never seen anyone so surprised in my life.

Great tips to share this to the world as a genocide survivor myself from 1975 to 1979 and most of my family members did not survive. We grew up in PP City then were forced to the countryside to work in the rice fields and most of them died from starvation and exhaustion. Only memories live on. Be mindful and be kind whenever possible. Happy travels from Khmer in the US!

Most of grandparents family did not survive the German genocide of the 1940s. I understand only a little of your horrors and I agree we need to be mindful and kind. One day soon I hope to travel to Cambodia, light some incense and pay honour and tributes to your forebears and ancestors. We will not forget. Regards from Australia.

I'm so sorry for the horror you must have suffered. We should all 'be mindful' that what happened in Cambodia is what has happened when every dictator who ever lived was allowed to implement socialism. And basically destroy the very fabric of society. I was in Cambodia last year. Pretty impressed on the way you are progressing.

I’m a Cambodian. I grown up in the Phnom Penh city. However my love for Siem Reap land always be so extraordinary. It’s always be my magical land. The local are super friendly. People there are living in peace they love one another and live in a calm, respectful and less competitive life. It’s the place where I can find both combination between ancient traditional rich culture of my own combine with luxury and cool life style amazing food is a plus. The temples are so much more than the stone. They represent my beautiful cultures. The nature there is absolutely memorable. Many big trees 🌳 huge river beautiful mountains that’s absolutely Beautiful.

That is Thai traditional costume ❤ Siem Reap was one of Thailand before Thailand lost it to France in the past.
@unityroullet495Ай бұрын
@@hunah444 I’m an archeologist and I have to disagree with you. 1. That’s Khmer traditional costume available since Funan period. 2. Siem Reap has always been Cambodian city/province. Yes, there was a time Siem Reap was under control by Thailand, but before that Siem Reap had always been belong to Cambodia. Please do more research on the internet (with accurate/trusted resources) about history of Cambodia/Thailand. Cambodia is an old country rich of culture which existed several years way before Thailand did. During khmer empire/Angkorian period, Cambodia covered large part of Southeast Asia including Thailand and Laos nowadays. Study has shown that Thai culture got influenced from Khmer such as literature, language, art, architecture, etc.
@hunah444Ай бұрын
@@unityroullet495 You are not archeologist. This Thai national costume that influence in Cambodia. In Angkor Era didn’t wear costume like this. This is Thai national dress in Ayutthaya Era and Rattanakosin of Thailand and Nowadays Khmer new generation didn’t wear Sampot but love to wear Thai dress due to the influence of Thai drama and movie. Since 2018 when Thai drama ‘Love destiny’ hit big in Cambodia. Khmer start wearing Thai national dress to Angkor Wat follow Thai drama. This is have an evidence record in Photo and Video bc in the past Khmer didn’t wear dress like this and Also Khmer royals family never dress like this they didn’t wear Thai dress but Khmer citizens love to wear Thai dress and buying Thai dress to wear in their wedding. This is very dangerous when Khmer kids can’t separate which is Thai dress or Khmer dress and follow the influence of Thai entertainment, Thai culture and everything in Thai.
