I think yes we need this new airport. We may not see the need now but we will see in the future. I remember when it was during the peak period before Covid19, the old airport was packed all the time and they were urgently hiring people to cope with situation. They were building this based on the scene of that peak period situation on how many tourists could it get. It is the same reason why they are building the new capital city's airport. However, maybe right now there are not enough flights like before yet (as in the reports). People won't flock themselves to visit Cambodia as much as other countries esp not 1-2 years after the pandemic when there are so many more attractive options - it's just not as popular and the bad or misinformed news dont help it either. The perception of the country is just hmm not so great. I am pretty sure they are building this to plan ahead of time and as I can recall, the old airport was polluting the nearby heritage as well (im not sure though). Anyway, great video! Thanks for visiting Cambodia!

Hi Mr Neverminden! Thanks for the background info, that makes a lot of sense and doesn’t surprise me. Do you know what the public transport situation has been like in the year since I visited? Hopefully Siem Reap can attract new carriers - I think Qatar just started recently. Thanks for watching! Hope you stay tuned for my next video which is the flight from Siem Reap to Singapore! C

@@CallumElsdon so far I haven't been there physically to try out the transport options but I have seen the news that they have airport shuttle bus that will help to transport you to the central city (you have to pay fee and follow bus schedule). I guess, there will still be tuktuk and other taxis waiting for you outside the arrival gate which I heard online that there hasn't been enough tourists to help sustain their livings recently - esp not with this new distance from airport to the city center that forced them to charge more than before for a trip. If you are staying in a hotel, I recommend asking for airport pick up; I think it will clear all the headache about transportation. In daily travelling, I believe you can call the TukTuk on the side of the road or use Grab and Passapp for fairer price. Qatar Airways is only flying to Phnom Penh. I think Siem Reap will need more times to attract new carriers, there are a few more coming by the end of this year.

Hello, how can you get this satellite image? I tried Google Earth as well, but got the old image.

Hi there - I used Google Earth Studio - effectively allowing you to record google earth shots for free at high quality. You need to request access - but you should get it within about 1 week. Thanks for watching :)

Siem Reap needed a new airport, the old one was too close to Angkor and restricted to a one way in and out procedure for aircraft. I feel the new airport is nice but too far from the city $35 visa, then $35 taxi into town is steep especially for tourist coming from ASEAN countries. The road to the airport is not that great, they need an expressway to the airport, or maybe a train.
@CallumElsdon3 ай бұрын
Very true. On one hand, for most long hail travellers - USD 35 is not going to be a big deal...however when most regional competitors are not charging that fee - why would you choose Cambodia over say Thailand, Vietnam or Malaysia? And if we're at it...why not drop the need for a visa on arrival altogether? Anyways, it feels like the Cambodian government were trying to solve a reasonable problem (the issue with pollution at Angkor) - got the airport building right, but the location and surrounding infrastructure completely wrong. Thank you for watching @ead2292!

In Thailand, they greet you by saying sawadikap with this gesture “🙏”. What do they say while doing this gesture “🙏” in cambodia?

According to Google, they say “som pas”. 😀

It found very few people use this airport and huge lost to China government whom invest in airport of about 10-20 flights per day. And most of tourist take bus from BKK to Ankor wat instead of take flight from Thailand. Hope that Cambodia pay loan back to China or give some land to China.

Ahhh, I didn’t know about that preferred method - but makes sense.

As an American, I now see Cambodia as part of China now that they have a Chinese military base there. It is no my do not go list like Hong Kong.

While I do think there are concerns around Chinese influence into foreign states, I think it is a shame that puts you off visiting places such as HK or Cambodia. I probably won’t be going back to Cambodia, less for the issue you have noted - more for me finding that the other countries in the region have more to offer! Thank you for watching the video 😀 I hope you watch some of my future content that covers other countries around the globe

@@CallumElsdon I’ve been to HK and Cambodia before, but will never return to China and unfortunately Cambodia now. I know how dangerous countries like Russia, North Korea, China can be and it’s not worth the risk. Too many friendly places to visit.

Spoken like a true american who've never stopped out of North America or Europe and is so brainwashed by your polticians and media. Your country, who've been constantly engaged in some foreign wars, backing brutal dictators and genocidal regimes , constantly have gun violence every few weeks is infinitely more unsafe than most other Asian countries. The US is the biggest hypocrite country in the world and dare preach to us when you've got tons of morality issues in your backyards.
