Trigger warning: talks of suicide attempts
Advice, stereotypes and relatability - hidden disabilities.
So many people have hidden disabilities and disorders but don't make it known because of stigma, fear and personal reasons. Society has not made it easy to discuss or educate persons on mental health, disabilities and disorders. Talking about these things are a great way to find out that we all have a lot more in common than we think - and to collectively ask for changes in treatment. As Sierra shares in this interview, you have to own it and understand that you are not your disability/disorder.
"No matter what it is: bipolar, schizophrenia, autism, no matter what it is at the end of the day it's a label that they use for a set of symptoms. That's really all it is. And once you view it like that you realise it's not that big of a deal," Sierra Brangman.
Sierra shares with me her upcoming poetry book she wrote while on a manic episode, her work experience, advice, how she was diagnosed and more.
