It's still so crazy to me that she is one of worlds best runners ever at this point. I ran in the same group as her at the Lionitas athletics club in Leeuwarden for about a year if I remember correctly. I moved to a different city to attend University, and randomly saw her on TV a couple of years later at the European Championship. Definitely did a double take. Back when I "knew" her, we were both wildly mediocre😄

It was a good video. But it doesn't accurately capture the complexity of running strategy. If you don't have the kind of closing kick that Hassan does, going out fast to try to either get an unbeatable kick or wear out your opponents so they can't kick past you in the end is often the best option. And some people have fast short kicks that require them to be closer to the lead. Hassan's kick is legendary which lets her let such sizable leads grow and then close them.
