Killer smallmouth bass fishing action on an extremely clear body of water in northern Michigan. Tubes, grubs, wacky rigs, and drop shots all took fish. Many were caught around rock, and a few around docks/hoists in 6-10' feet of water.
Some fish we spotted before catching, and a few we caught by casting blindly.

On another note, looks like you're pretty close to the docks and moored boats. I can tell you from experience, it's a good way to make enemies fast in Northern MI. I've had more than a couple fine citizens express their displeasure with how close I was to their docks/boats. Earlier this summer a person even got on their jetski and began buzzing us.

I like the clear water...Nice looking color on the fish also...My buddy and I went out about a month ago and caught some real nice bass doing this...he caught a 22.5 about 6 pounds...My biggest that day was 19.5 but really fat, close to 5 I would say...Seen a nice Musky and got a quick vid of that also...Good stuff JB...

Are docks out in the water common in that area? I've never seen that. I assume you take a jon boat out to the dock? It is put there to save on shore space?

JB, Great Video-I have been getting excited about heading to the UP to start our trip for smallmouth, after watching this my blood preasure is off the charts. we leave Sunday to head north, the Lund has been retooled for smallmouth fishing. I got a painters pole for my gopro so I am going to try and get some video. Still trying to learn the editing stuff. Hopefully when Ii get home I can post a video of our trip. We catch them the same way using dropshots, jigs and of course my favorite way on spinner baits. I love having a smallmouth crush a spinnerbait that is being burned throught the water, most time they almost rip the rod ouf of your hand. Cant wait to cross the bridge into gods country. Steve

OF course they are not going to tell the name of the lake. I wouldn't either. It doesn't matter though. There are all sorts of awesome smallmouth lakes in the TC area, and most of them are crystal clear waters. Torch and the whole chain, Charlevoix, Leelanau, both bays, the list is endless really for northwest Michigan. The fishing and beauty of Northern Michigan can't be matched. But I am starting to hate the LONG winters.

@ConsummateSportsman
@ConsummateSportsman 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You'll want a medium action rod that's sensitive. The type where your hand is right on the blank is a bonus, as opposed to rods where your hand is on a handle. For line we ran mostly braid with a fluoro leader. I'd go with at least 10lb diameter braid.

What pound test are these clowns using that they can just pick their fish up without a net and wing them into the boat. Try being a sportsman and using 4lb test line and actually giving the fish a chance to either snap the line or take out some drag.
@amepilot1277
@amepilot1277 9 жыл бұрын
Using ultra light line on fish too large on the line increases play time and increases fish mortality. Catch and release 101.
@amepilot1277
@amepilot1277 9 жыл бұрын
Then again dragging the fish out of the water and dropping it on the deck of the boat also increases fish mortality.
