These vlogs have great production quality. Seriously good storytelling and flow.

This is actually the best explanation that I've heard for understanding scales and chord progressions as shapes

You.make it sound so simple Bob but I understand what you're saying. You appear a top bloke too. Your sax playing is incredible gutted I missed your tour hopefully you'll do another round the UK. Andy from England

Oh my heck. I know this was 6 years ago, but I just about stroked watching this! Nothing like a little adrenaline pump to keep one awake! Yikes. As for sight reading shapes and function in the key/progression, I totally get it. However, easier said than done. Sadly I am fighting the addiction to the dots. Dots are safety. (Usually) Dots assure me success if I follow their path. They are warm and safe. But I am jumping off the cliff into the world of shapes and chord structure. I’m still working on the skills, both mental and motor, but I think I can get there with enough prolonged focus. (Go me!) Thanks for the inspiration, Bob!

Love the music and the vlog. An inspiration. Please keep up the great work. Can't wait until you release the entire Guitar Band album(unless I'm missing something).

Great advice, love the vlogs! This sight reading advice is of insane use for me as an aspiring (session) guitarist. Thanks!

Hey Bob, I used to play in a big band for awhile, that rehearsed and gigged weekly and it was great in developing my sight-reading skills. I've been out of that band for a little while now and don't do nearly as much reading. I'm feeling that skill slip away from me a bit now that I don't have that real world, weekly application for it. Do you practice sight-reading? Practice transposing? If so, in what way?

Hello Bob, I've been loving these blogs. Do you have any advise for a Tenor player who has to switch around between Tenor and Alto? I'm currently in this situation and would like some tips, as the transition is difficult at times.
@dontgetsentalink8 жыл бұрын
Yeah man I am really good at sight reading but my improv is very repeated I mean it's good but I need more ideas which is why I am now transcribing thanks for this vid the diminished chords is all I have troubles on

Hi Bob - how do you find doing this on Alto? I can do this on tenor / sop but my ear and fingers argue like hell when I'm on Alto...
@bobreynolds8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Forshaw definitely tricky(er) on alto. I have same issue. but shapes remain consistent so if you can just think of them in the key you're in... probably a few more tips in this series: lessons.bobreynoldsmusic.com/alto-for-tenor-players/

Informative video, be heaps better if the incidental music wasn't so loud compared to everything else, -6db would be plenty.
