This song is the only cover they did written and first recorded by Al Green. Their version was a huge hit though back in the day.

This is, in fact, the absolute pinnacle of my personal list of covers that massively improve on the originals.

I don't give a damn what anybody says, listening to this makes it impossible to not be happy. It's the Talking Heads effect. I like the difference on sis's face from the beginning of the video to the end. That's what happens!

Great fun in concert, but the best version is the one they did in studio. It's better than the Reverend's version too. (which is so rare as to be notable ). I like the song a lot - Bryan Ferry did a decent cover of it in the same year (1977), but I think THeads properly appropriated it, reimaged it and own it now. Fun thought: I'd love to see Al and David duet.

That would be quite a duet my friend!

The first time I heard this song was when they performed it on SNL. It was AMAZING! I’ve loved them ever since. When Broadway reopens, I highly recommend you see Davis Byrne’s show. It is phenomenal!! It was also on HBO not too long ago, directed by Spike Lee.

@@SightAfterDark I disagree; I always felt the narrator on "Nothing But Flowers" missed the convenience of the modern world and hated the fact that everything had changed and it was nothing but nature now.
