Sights in Stralsund, 1961

In the series "Reise ohne Passierschein" ("Journey without a pass") an SFB team visits the so-called "Zone" to get an idea of the situation in the GDR in 1961. Stralsund, situated in front of the chalk cliffs of Rügen in the Baltic Sea, is still the Hanseatic city of their memory, where the rich houses of the merchants are located at the market place. The town hall, in which the Danish king submitted to the mayor of Stralsund in 1370, is still a landmark in the historic town centre, as is St. Nicholas' Church. The visitors, however, do not like the signs of SED rule such as the nationalised HO restaurants, hotels and shops. The newly built shipyard is also described as a strategic construction project of the Soviet Union. Stralsund, according to the reporters, is being held captive and loses the spirit of freedom under its GDR dictatorship.

Super Film - Der Kommentar; naja SFB - war nicht ganz objektiv - als Stralsunder Junge aus dieser Zeit stimmen manchmal Bild und Kommentar nicht so gut überein
