In 1961 West meets East in the series "Reise ohne Passierschein". A SFB team visits Torgau in Saxony, a city that has been separated from the West by barbed wire for 15 years. With its glassworks and machine factories, the city on the Elbe is one of the strongest economic towns in the region. The historical buildings in Torgau, such as the Electoral Residence, the St. Mary's Church and Hartenfels Castle, contrast with these modern-day achievements. The former border castle against the Slavs was also visited by Martin Luther, to whom a monument was set in the winding inner city with the Luther House. Even more remarkable, however, is the memorial to the year 1945 when Torgau made world history when the 1st Ukrainian Front of the Red Army and the US troops allied.
