It's crazy they aren't more well known. It's just so well put together

This band is criminally underrated. Not even big into metal anymore, yet I still like to give them a listen.

Fuck me. Sigh, going since 1990, constantly shifting sound, constantly sounding like nothing else, constantly writing interesting pieces of music. Legends. Hail the Horror!

This is the first Sigh song I played for my crush, who knew nothing about metal 4 days before, simply with this introduction: "One of my absolute favorite bands. So many influences, often dreamlike and otherworldly. The following track transforms an oriental cliché to something else entirely. Pure alchemy." She loved it. Well, I must say that she was far much more than a crush.

I don't think I ever heard this kind of japanese folk music implemented so well in a metal context. Really good album!

Sigh is one of the greatest Japanese metal bands of all time. They were signed to Euronymous record label in the beginning of black metal in the 90's.
@slashinghades73474 жыл бұрын
There is actually very little Japanese folk elements here. They are utilizing more western and middle eastern Folk instruments and the lead riff has a very Indian sound to it.
@deadmanwithpitchforkarms83764 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if someone with a anime chick avatar answers you telling something isn't japanese, they're probably right
@slashinghades73474 жыл бұрын
@@deadmanwithpitchforkarms8376 I'm just saying that the folk instrumentation on this album has a ton of influence from Indian and Middle Eastern music alongside more Western influence to the point it where sounds like black metal meets Jethro Tull. Then again it is Sigh and they somehow manage to mash various music styles together very well. Their album In Somniphobia is a very jazzy album whereas Gallows Gallery was very psychedelic. Point is they are very unpredictable with their songwriting, which in my opinion, makes them fresh every time they release new material.

I like In 'Somniphobia' and 'Scenes from Hell' very much. But, I think 'Heir to Despair' is Sigh's best Album/CD yet! Yea 'Aletheia' is a very cool song, but the whole Album/CD 'HEIR TO DESPAIR' is actually extremely cool, and highly recommended, and is probably my favorite Sigh Album/CD ever.

In order to make sure of these memories Shut away, connecting... The moments of the newly-etched future and past We watched these together The never-ending promise that I can't forget Exists vividly in this world even now If you want a miracle, it's right in front of your eyes: We were able to meet again We place our dreams upon the feathers that dance in the sky Our own personal Aletheia (We) can fly off anywhere Embrace those shining chains These fading memories Lead the two of us in far-off days The voice of (my) heart That (was) awoke(n by) a subtle warmth I want to convey all of it to you If you want a reason for why you go on living It's because I always create it If you want a miracle, it's always beside you Because we took each other's hands When we looked up at the feathers that dance in the sky Our hearts raced... Aletheia Because if I'm with you, I go anywhere without Losing my way in the darkness *Like the light that we both seek The pain is melted away* You felt the feathers that dance in the sky Our own personal Aletheia We can fly away anywhere Embracing those shining chains Always together

Glad to hear a US release of a new Sigh album that doesn't sound like junk, unlike everything since Imaginary Sonicscape. (Good thing for the overseas remasters.) Happy you got Maor Appelbaum to master it. Any chance of getting him to redo Hangman's Hymn? Gotta keep fixing what James Murphy ruined.

@aspie1826 жыл бұрын
Sigh's best album since Scenario IV. This whole album is a testament to the fact that when you send any piece of culture to Japan, Japan will ramp up what it is really about and send it back. Sigh proves that doom and black metal are the pinnacles of Human artistic achievement. Moar albums like Heir To Despair pretty please, Sigh.

It's only seeing this video you realise the harsh vocals are Mikannibal, they sound uncannily like Mirai's on older Sigh albums. Perhaps he's getting a bit tired of screaming.

Sigh's best song, and that is saying a shit-ton. This is proof of how awesome doom and black are. I was having a conversation once about manga, and one of the other men told me that the Japanese take things from Western culture, ramp up the elements that stand out to them, put a uniquely Japanese twist on it, and then send it back. The sexualisation of women in comic books gets weird and bemusing in manga, for example. This is what doom and black becomes in the hands of the Japanese, and it is absolutely glorious. The only thing I can fault in Aletheia is that Mirai missed one thing about Humanity. We do not fear for the truth. We are afraid OF the truth.
