Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 DC HSM - Is it still good in 2021+??

YES! The Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 is still an AWESOME wide angle lens! If you're looking for a lens for real estate photography, landscapes or just to have for family vacations/events, this is an awesome lens, especially if you can find one that is still in great condition for under $250USD.

March of '23. I picked this up, used at the camera store in Calgary for $160 Cn because I'm just getting into real estate photography. The salesman told me he used the same lens for the same reason. You'll need a tripod in low light, but for real estate, you'll be using one anyway.

Managed to get one for 90€ in mint condition with the original Sigma 'softcase' if that's what you can call it. Sadly I haven't used it a whole lot, but I'm very pleased with it. It's surprisingly sharp for the price. The only thing that could be better is the corner performance. It's also great for handheld shooting in darker places since it's so wide.

it is still good in 2021 , 2024 , 2027 . 2030 etc. And what can happen to it, it is not food and therefore does not spoil! If he made good pictures in 2015, then the pictures in 2025 will not be any worse! Use it while it technically works and does not break! Good luck !

Bought this lens used as part of a kit that included the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 and the Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 with a Nikon D300 camera over 10yrs ago and I thought I was the man...paid $850. Wife was still using the 10-20mm as a wide even with her full frame camera but I got her the Tamron 15-30mm 2.8 when she was doing real estate a lot. Was offered $550 a couple yrs ago for all 3 lenses from a camera store, it would be lower now, maybe. We upgraded her to a D7000 when it first came out and used those same lenses but now she only shoots full frame. Still have the set of lenses, last time I used the 18-50mm it was starting to squeak. Both the 15-30mm and the 10-20mm rarely get used now. I've gone to a 16mm and a 20mm primes for wide for me, both manual and very small compared to the 15-30mm which is huge. Paid a lot of money for the 15-30mm and get frustrated because wife just takes her 24-70mm Nikon 2.8 and shoots a panoramic handheld and stitches it together in photo shop if the wedding party group shot is too big. Long story short is yes, I would recommend the 10-20mm especially what you paid...versatile lens.

Interesting! What do you think about the 16mm and 20mm lenses? I got the 10-20 for events but unfortunately, the pandemic shut down all of the events around here. But at the same time, some times I think a fast crop-sensor prime lens would be interesting to use too, since, I find myself rarely using anything between 11-19mm on the 10-20, haha! But wow, your wife is crazy good for doing those panoramic shots, that's definitely makes her work outshine others! And yeah, I remember this lens was being sold for around $300-$380 a few years back and a lot of photographers were praising it. Glad I got one for the price. It's still a really nice lens for outdoor stuff.

@@BoostLeekdMedia The Nikon 20mm is the F3.5 and the 16mm F2.8 is an old mint Sigma Fisheye that I use a lot shooting low & up from the dance floor recently, both are manual. I would get the Nikon 20mm 1.8 G lens, seen them used for $450 but is supposed to be really sharp and can use it with the FTZ in AF with mirrorless plus would help boost my landscape career, haha. Other than the 10-20mm is DX so your full frame gets cropped down, I remember it vignetted a lot or had a circle but fixed that in camera but cant remember exactly, just put it on my D700 now and had no issues, It did have a red box in view finder to show DX crop. went and put the 20mm on the D700 and no comparison...much wider. I believe I only paid $240 for the 20mm, checked prices and looks like stuff has actually increased. I could have saved so much money just sticking with my nikon 24-120 F4 when I went full frame as a second shooter yrs ago and it worked for me but got caught up in the chase/collection of lenses which is a progression that helps with work flow in the type of work where you don't have much time to catch the shot. Last wedding we did I used the 70-200mm 2.8 for some of the ceremony but everything else shot the 45mm 1.8 & 100mm 2.8 with two cameras and played with the 16mm on dance floor. Might go back to shooting just one camera, just picked up a new bag that's supposed to help with lens changes. Thanks for putting up with my long winded replies, off work and it's raining outside so surfing the net today & messing around with the camera gear.

I think I got my deal of the year here.... I shoot with Pentax. I got this lens a few weeks ago for CAD $170.00 but also included a Sigma 18-200, both completely mint, and an old Pentax DSLR (2000 shutter count) and Pentax Digital flash. I got it because of this 10-20 and indeed is great!

Personally, I would stick with the native Canon lens, especially if it's better priced compared to the Sigma.

Not quite sure what body you have but you will be able to use it on most Nikon DSLRs. If I remember correctly, this lens will not work on the D3400, D3500, D5500 and D5600.

If you have a Canon DSLR, personally, I would stick with the Canon, especially if you're doing video. The Sigma is great but this Sigma wide lens is behind on the video AF performance against the Canon 10-18. The Canon has the upperhand. BUT, if you're on a budget and find the Sigma for half the price of the Canon, the Sigma is an excellent option too.

Thanks for the video. Just a question, I recently bought this lens but it does not have a switch between MF/AF. That’s no biggy is it? I currently am not with my camera so I can’t test it out. Just wondering did I make a mistake when buying it. Got it’s cheap enough off eBay. Thanks 🙌🏼

Yes because the 10-20 lens was not made for full frame cameras.

Make sure it's the Sony mount. Distortion for any wide lens is going to be pretty bad, especially for these "entry" level wide lenses.

I'm pretty curious about the Nikon 10-20. The only issue with the Nikon 10-20mm DX VR AF-P f/4.5-5.6 G is that it will not work on older Nikon DSLRS (Nikon D3200 and below, D5200 and below, D7200 and below, Nikon D40, D60, etc). IF I owned a D5300 or D3300 or the D7500, I would definitely use the 10-20 over this Sigma.

Hi I shoot skateboarding, for close up action shots I'm currently using the Samsung 8mm 3.5 on my Canon 7d, I'm finding the images a bit soft or out of focus as it's manual focus only, I'm wondering if anyone thinks the Sigma 10-20 EX with auto focus would be good to use? I wouldn't get the fish eye effect but as long as I can get within 1 meter and get the skater in frame I'd be happy. Any help is appreciated!

I just got a D7000 :D The 10-20 would be excellent for landscape, especially for walking around and hiking. Loved using the 10-20 during my hikes. Plus, it'll be great for walking around cities if you're around buildings too.

I have been using this lens since last 4 years with my D3200 and D5600. I am not satisfied with this lens because it gives under sharp images, even at f/9 and beyond. Guide me to use it properly, so that I get Sharper images from this lens.

In my view, the wide angle lenses were not meant to be 'sharp' but made to capture the environment around you. It's suppose to make the audience look at the whole entire image appose to the sharpness of the image.

@@amlanbhattacharya3234 If I remember correctly, the 10-20 AF-P lens will only autofocus on the D5600 and not the D3200. You can switch to the 10-20 AF-P. I'm sure the image quality would be slightly better than the Sigma.
