Hello, BasketBallGDV. The Sigma 18-250 is a great all-in-one zoom lens that has "macro" capabilities. You can use it for a variety of types photography from travel, landscape, and family. The benefit of Canon's lens with the STM would be in it's focusing capabilities. The stepping motor allows for the focus to be smoother and quieter which works best when recording video and stills. The EF-S 55-250 would also be smaller and lighter in weight.

Hi, you would get more range but less sharpness with that lens, prime lenses are much sharper and faster than zoom lenses but zoom lenses give you more versatility.

Thanks , after using today I took a photo with shallow depth of field (Blurry background I'm sure you know this lol just clarifying incase I got wrong ) anyway I noticed I could start the focus point much closer with the macro lens than with my other lenses so I guess macro just means a lens has a closer focus distance than non macro ?

I use the older non optically stabilised version of this lens with an adapter on a lumix g3, personally I wouldn't expect to see a lot more light being drawn in by using a speed booster on an Apsc type lens like this one. With no I.s on my camera I go for older cheaper non I.s lenses that are lighter, manual focus is a doddle and shooting at the equivalent 500mm you'd be better off using a tripod anyway, thus negating the need of image stabilisation. But hey ho, different horse for different courses

It'll fit all cannon eos dslr camera's, 400,450,500,550,600,650,700,750d, 20,30,40,50,60,70,80d, 6d mk1, or 2.. , 1000, 1100, 1300 series etc.. all apsc sensor digital eos cameras. It won't fit mirrorless cameras such as the m10, m3, m5 etc.. As they'll need an adapter.
